Position Summary:

The University of Alaska seeks a Budget Analyst. This position assists in the preparation of system wide financial and facilities reports in an accurate and timely manner. A broad array of standard and ad-hoc reports are produced to aid in the understating of UA's budget by: UA leadership, the UA Board of Regents, State of Alaska Governor & Legislature, and other UA constituents.


30Maintain various internal data systems used to track revenue, expenditures, and budget information. Audit operating and capital budget activity to ensure compliance with university policy and regulations, and state regulations and authorizations. Understand and follow UA system-wide standards for data input for effective, efficient and consistent reporting.Essential
70Assist in annual system-level budget development and submission process. Must work closely with lead to understand current budget assumptions and incorporate suggestions to improve budget process. The ability to enter operating and capital information into the state's accounting and budgeting systems in a timely and accurate manner. Assist in preparation of financial and facilities information for inclusion in various publications, including: annual budget request books (UA & Governor’s), actual/approved budget book, UA in Review, facilities inventory, and other internal or external publications as necessary. The ability to compile information quickly, accurately, and appropriately to aid in response to a broad array of questions regarding the University's budget, expenditures and programs from UA affiliates (leadership, faculty, staff, students, etc.), state agencies, and others requesting information regarding the University of Alaska. Ability to coordinate meetings, and general office functions as necessary.Essential


Competence in PC computer environment; proficient in the use of spreadsheets and word processors; data retrieval; the ability to acquire new skill sets in an expedient manner. Knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles
(GAAP). Knowledge of rules and regulations associated with capital and operating budgets.
Ability to analyze and implement improvements.


At least six months experience in data manipulation, retrieval, applied research and/or information systems required, ideally in a higher education framework.


Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, math, business, statistics, or related field or six months experience in data retrieval, applied research or information systems.

Probationary Period:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.
