KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Strong attention to detail, ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to complete tasks thoroughly and responsibly. Ability to work with a team to co-plan programs and work toward group consensus. Specialized tasks with skills to be developed to include the planning, promotion, facilitation, evaluation, and reporting of campus wide events.

It is also necessary that the applicant be able to lift up to 40lbs with or without accommodations, and stand for long periods of time. The applicant must be reliable, punctual, have a strong work ethic, and have excellent communication skills. Successful candidates are energetic, dynamic, and have a desire to learn and grow.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience working on a team is preferred.

TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Students should have experience with one or more of the following: 1) Organizing recreational and social activities; 2) Food preparation that meets Anchorage Municipality standards; 3) General home maintenance and repair which can translate to art gallery upkeep; 4) CPR and First Aid Training and/or experience preparing risk assessments for off-campus events; 5) Sound and light technical experience for entertainment programming; 6) Planning menus and events within a budget, and creating shopping inventories; 7) Writing press releases for local newspapers about events and exhibitions; and 8) Cash handling experience

JOB DUTIES:

  • Meetings: The Event Planner will attend weekly meetings with the Student Activities staff
  • Marketing: The Event Planner will work with the SLL graphics and marketing team to develop materials to promote positive mental and physical health.
  • Event Assistance: When time permits, the Event Planner will assist with events planned and organized by other Student Activities and Commuter Programs Event Planners. This may consist of serving food, checking tickets, etc.
  • Event Organization: The Event Planner will take a lead role to conceptualize, plan, and deliver a diverse array of social and educational events such as video game competitions, lecturers, comedians, musicians, spoken word artists, gameshows, outdoor recreational activities, cultural events, and other social programming.
  • Gallery Maintenance and Preparation: The Event Planner may utilize power tools, sweep, paint, change lighting, and offer basic housekeeping, as well as offer assistance with layout and mounting in between shows.
  • Gallery Attending: Event Planners may assist with attending the gallery, welcoming visitors, and offering them information about the show.
  • Den and Food Preparation: Event Planners may develop weekly menus and operate a kitchen to produce daily meals for the UAA student body.

HOURLY RATE:

$10.50
