Position Summary:

Have you been looking for a finance position that delves into the inner workings of HR systems? The University of Alaska is seeking an HR Accountant who will assist and support the accounting department by ensuring the accuracy and maintenance of reports, journal vouchers, etc.

Duties:

100Assist with/support implementation and maintenance of system-wide regulations or benefit changes affecting accounting processes. Recommend and implement changes for improvement to processes. Generate reports in TOAD and Access in response to departmental or management inquiries. Run and write advanced queries as needed. Prepare reports, remittance requests, and journal vouchers with supporting documentation based on established guidelines and regularly scheduled generated data. Review generated data to identify discrepancies and outliers. Research questions and problems reported by vendors or other departments. Analyze generated data and validate with other data sources including account reconciliations to identify discrepancies and outliers. Recommend solutions to compliance problems. Suggest modifications to reports and queries to improve the accuracy of reporting. Work with vendors, HRIS, and UA HR to identify and recommend solutions to compliance issues. Independently identify and research HR accounting errors, vendor problems, and campus questions. Recommend procedural or processing changes. Evaluate results and identify data and processing errors, problems, and noncompliance with current procedures. Develop procedural or processing changes to enhance consistency throughout the university system. Frontline interaction with customers. Assessing one-on-one customer needs. Providing positive customer service to all internal and external customers. Conduct customer service feedback and polls to assess customer service provided by HR accounting. Resolve escalated customer complaints. Develop a network of cross-functional peers in order to resolve more complex customer needs. Participate in meetings and provide subject matter support. Conduct independent research prior to meetings and be prepared to make recommendations and present updates on projects or issues being investigated by the HR accounting team. Represent HR accounting on other cross-functional teams as requested. Perform other duties as assigned.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Requires intermediate knowledge of HR (payroll, personnel, benefits, recruitment, budget), including HR processes, HR theory, and HR compliance
Must have a basic understanding of the University of Alaska system and how information flows between and impacts different functional areas
Requires intermediate level knowledge of MS Access or other database reporting tools
Requires knowledge of bank transaction and cash control methods
Requires advanced knowledge of automated accounting systems
Requires knowledge of spreadsheet/database development and query development specific to financial or budget analysis
Requires knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Requires an intermediate knowledge level of MS Word and Excel
Requires intermediate knowledge of Banner HR, Banner Finance
Requires basic understanding of Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodology
Requires analytical and problem-solving skills; innovative thinking
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and customer service skills
Must be able to communicate technical ideas to internal and external customers in a way that can be easily understood
Must be skilled at identifying and proactively addressing problems or potential risks
Must have organizational and follow-up skills
Must have verification, monitoring, and reconciling skills
Must have intermediate fiscal skills
Must be able to adapt to new system interfaces with ease
Ability to gather and analyze data
Must be able to interpret regulations, fiscal and purchasing policies, and contracts independently
Must be able to understand fiscal and purchasing policies, rules, and regulations
Must be able to prioritize workload independently and meet deadlines under stressful situations

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Statistics, or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum 3 years progressively responsible professional or management fiscal experience.

Probationary Period:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.   During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.  Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
