Position Summary:

The Consortium Library supports the teaching, research and public service missions of UAA and APU. It educates students of both institutions in the use of the library and its electronic resources. The Circulation Department specifically supports the public service mission in that it is the point of contact for library patrons who wish to borrow materials, place materials on reserve, handle financial matters such as paying fines, and ask directional or general information questions.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Working knowledge/experience with automated online library circulation systems and circulation policies. Knowledge of English language alphabetic and alphanumeric filing systems, use of computer systems/Microsoft suite of products and email. Working knowledge of cash register, money handling, and copy machine operations. Financial reporting and skills and ability to prepare deposits. Customer service experience. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

May require subject or technical knowledge acquired through college coursework, specialized training, or advanced work experience in a related setting. Demonstrated supervisory experience.

TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High School graduation and two years progressively responsible relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. May require subject or technical knowledge acquired through college coursework, specialized training, or advanced work experience in a related setting.

JOB DUTIES:

  • 45% - Student Supervision: This position is responsible for maintaining the student labor pool, performing all interviewing and hiring, and maintaining the schedules of up to 20 student workers in a manner that both serves the operation of the library and the conflicts inherent in student class schedules. The Student Supervisor does all the student training necessary to accomplish the tasks assigned to them in the library and evaluates them on their work. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery: Receive and process requests for interlibrary loan material from borrowing libraries using ILLIAD & Worldshare software, email and phone. Sort requests & verify that UAA has requested material using bibliographic tools. Process materials according to medium. Update ILL software and UAA library catalog. Deliver items using appropriate medium. Track and troubleshoot requests. Make proper reproduction of journals, microfiche and microfilm. Oversee mailing of materials in accordance with postal regulations. Bill when necessary. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Fiscal management: Prepare reports and document weekly library cash register deposit. Resolve overdue material disputes. Use Banner & SIRSI library software to place and remove academic holds based on patron delinquency. Maintain library vending machine and inventory. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Course Reserve: Process items for course reserves using Sirsi Reserves module; develop reports for circulation data; conduct outreach to faculty and students to support growth of course reserves. Maintains the day-to-day operations of the collection including entering all items into the bibliographic database, preparing the materials for checkout, maintaining the materials in their proper order and position in the reserve area, and reviewing the materials for copyright compliance. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Circulation Desk: Provide coverage to the circulation desk in the absence of regular personnel including nights and weekends. This includes but is not limited to the circulation of materials to patrons, management of patron accounts, receiving and processing money and providing customer service to all patrons at the desk. - (Essential)
