Position Summary:

The Employee Transition and Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting and communicating UA’s benefits and wellness program. This position will provide excellent customer service and support to employees.


100Responds to employee and dependent questions regarding UA benefits Schedule new employee benefits orientation. Ensure all new benefit-eligible staff and faculty are scheduled and attend orientation or otherwise receive benefit information. Ensure all appropriate benefits documents are completed and submitted within the required timeframe. Prepares for and conducts bi-weekly new employee orientation. Prepares new employee packets. Conducts benefits briefings for potential new hires. May meet one-on-one with new hires regarding benefits eligibility and enrollment. Serves as Family Medical Leave (FML) request intake person. Maintains medical leave database, including reports, processing and distribution of documents and notifications, and initial approver. Sends out approval or denial notices in a timely manner and reports to Senior Employee Transition and Benefits Specialist. Maintains FML files in accordance with HIPAA and standard privacy practices. Documents FML files with all communications regarding each FML request and its status. Responsible for meeting timelines, tracking and processing FML actions and following through on requirements. This position is responsible for making independent decisions regarding approval of medical leave and advises staff/faculty regarding FML. Conducts employee experience interviews and tracks reasons why employees decide to leave. Sends out appropriate employee experience survey packets to all terminating employees. Submits COBRA eligibility information using the current UA process in accordance with timeline requirements. Develops and updates the UA COBRA notification process and administers documents to provide notice of eligibility to current COBRA vendor, ensuring all eligible employees receive COBRA information and application within the legal timeline. Maintains appropriate logs. Retirement verifications - approves and processes all distribution requests for retirement funds for UA employees. Performs other duties as assigned.Essential

Requires basic understanding of HR (payroll, personnel, benefits, recruitment, budget), including HR processes, HR theory, and HR Compliance
Knowledge of personnel policies, regulations, and practices
Compliance knowledge regarding state and federal legislation (e.g. COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, Labor and employment laws)
Strong accuracy, attention to detail, and organization skills
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Analytical skills that demonstrate the ability to research and resolve discrepancies
Must be skilled at identifying and proactively addressing problems or potential risks
Must be able to adapt to new system interfaces with ease
Must be able to prioritize workload independently and meet deadlines under stressful situations
Must be flexible and able to work in an environment of change
Must be able to foster a collaborative team environment
Must be able to recommend actions for improvements to current processes


Minimum of two years of experience in human resources, benefits or related activities.


Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Probationary Period:
