Position Summary:

The Chukchi Campus is looking for an Assistant to the Chukchi Director, a dynamic go-getter, interested in helping to grow this campus and to be the best public face for the campus we could ever have.


40Assist student services, instructional coordinator and library departments as needed. Assist students with course technology and other issues as needed. Direct student inquiries about CRCD programs to the appropriate coordinator, advisor or faculty member. Proctor student exams. Keep the campus building neat and tidy. Coordinates with UAF Facilities and campus personnel for maintenance and upkeep issues.Essential
60Serve as first point of contact for the Chukchi Campus, answer front desk phone, route calls and customers to the appropriate staff/faculty member. Screen calls and correspondence, answer routine inquiries, and provide information as necessary. Troubleshoot and resolve problems that may arise during day-to-day campus operations. Collect, open, sort, distribute and deliver mail. Provide courier services in addition to posting flyers around town, going to the post office or airport. Monitor building usage and ensure the safety and productivity of all who use Chukchi Campus during open hours. Maintain inventory of all equipment, computers and office supplies. Work with UAF OIT to maintain all campus computer equipment and printers regularly. Work with the CRCD fiscal technician to order office supplies as needed. Photocopy and mail materials as needed for all staff in the building. Responsible for closing the Chukchi Campus building. Maintain the Chukchi Campus staff directory and faculty department listing. Maintain the Chukchi Campus phone system. Maintain the Chukchi Campus calendar. Provide administrative support for all events as needed. Monitor and update information dissemination systems and social media with current news, training, courses and scholarship information. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chukchi Campus Director, particularly in peak periods or in the absence of other campus personnel. Schedule and provide logistics for campus meetings, assist with conferences, special events and support the campus's involvement in all activities. Provide support to the Campus Director with the Chukchi Campus Advisory Council: maintain CC Council minutes, bylaws, resolutions, current directory of Council Members, track Council membership elections and vacancies. Maintain, process and provide council with advisory council evaluations for the Director Take minutes of meetings and distribute relevant information to appropriate staff, faculty and council members in a timely manner.Essential

The mission of the Chukchi Campus is to integrate lifelong educational opportunities with rural Alaskan and Alaska Native communities, cultures and ways of life.  As a Rural Community Campus under the College of Rural and Community Development, the campus delivers relevant higher education programming and services to rural communities across the northwestern region of Alaska.  

UAF Chukchi Campus is looking for an administrative assistant. This position will serve as the first point of contact for Chukchi Campus and provide support within a variety of areas throughout the campus such as student, library, IT, and administrative services. Additional duties as assigned. 


Demonstrated experience in office systems administration and management, with experience in Word, Excel, Publisher, internet, social media, and email.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to organize and prioritize workload
Ability to support and work in a team
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and respond to shifting priorities by remaining flexible and positive.
Must have strong customer service/interpersonal skills.
Skills needed in problem-solving, analytical thinking, editing, and writing skills, listening and oral communication skills, discretion, and sound judgment.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse populations. Knowledge of Alaska
Native cultures, values and traditions and rural communities

Required Experience:

Three years progressively responsible office/administrative experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.

Required Education/Training:

High School Diploma.
Demonstrated knowledge of computer and software programs (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, internet, and graphics)
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated knowledge of post-secondary education institutions
Demonstrated time management skills
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule
Demonstrated telephone techniques and skills
Advanced education or experience in organization and/or administrative management preferred.

Salary: $24.16/hr, DOE

Job Duration: 11 months a year

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.


Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.   During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.  Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
