The Department of Languages is accepting applications for adjunct instructors. Applicants should be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. Adjunct positions are on a semester appointment basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of an appointment nor does having worked one semester guarantee an offer of employment in the following semester. This is an adjunct labor pool and applicants are hired based on departmental need. Salary is based on the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska.
Adjunct instructors are hired by the Department of Languages to provide elementary and intermediate-level courses in American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish.
Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which adjunct instructors will be hired.
Design curriculum. Prepare lesson plans. Instruct students on area of expertise. Hold office hours, or be available for contact with students.
Applicants should be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Demonstrable skills in teaching the target language at the lower-division level; sensitivity to a diverse student population; ability to provide a strong pedagogical foundation to classes of 20-30 students; familiarity with the integration of technology into the classroom. Knowledge of second-language acquisition and teaching methodologies is highly desirable. Candidates are expected to abide by all departmental, college, and University principles.
Required Education: A master's degree is the minimum educational qualification for this position.
