The University of Alaska Fairbanks Facilities Services Division of Utilities seeks applicants for the position of Utilities Maintenance Manager.

The candidate should have extensive experience with Facilities Maintenance in commercial, campus or educational environments. Must have skills and knowledge to lead journeyman level staff in the construction and maintenance of University Facilities. Candidate should be equally comfortable working on the computer and working in the field; and needs to be familiar with building codes and regulations. The Program Specialist provides administrative and programmatic support for the Student Support Services office. This position provides support to four advisors, the director, 13-15 tutors and works with students from a wide range of backgrounds. He/she manages the day-to-day operations of the office, including coordinating front desk student workers. This introductory-level position familiarizes the incumbent with front-line functions that are vital to the success of the office and prepares for potential development into a staff advising position. For this reason, this position requires a high level of attention to detail, balance among competing priorities, juggling multiple tasks and prioritizing accurate data management. This position is ideal for someone committed to educational opportunity, especially among disadvantaged students, and who finds a dynamic, fast-paced environment rewarding. The department supports career development, continuing education and professional growth for employees.
Student Support Services is an academic retention program with the goal of helping at-risk (i.e. first generation, financially limited or living with disabilities) students succeed in college. Services provided include comprehensive advising, tutoring, mentoring, a laptop computer check-out program, free printing, assistance with navigating the university system and access to additional educational resources. The SSS program serves 280 UAF students annually and is funded by a TRiO grant from the U.S. Department of Education and state initiative.
Temporary Technical Casual
Mining and Petroleum Training Service (MAPTS) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Temporary Instructional Designer. MAPTS is a workforce development unit within UAF’s School of Natural Resources and Extension which conducts short-term non-credit training for new employees in the mining and oil & gas industries and continuing education and certifications for incumbent employees. MAPTS operates a remote training camp as well as classroom-based training in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Soldotna, and other locations around the state.
This position will assist MAPTS in marketing its program through electronic and printed sources. The position will also work with staff instructors and subject matter experts to create instructional presentations and marketing publications. This is a union represented position. Under general supervision of the Operating Shift Engineer, makes hourly and special rounds of
the Plant, observes and records information, inspects, operates, adjusts and lubricates high pressure steam boiler auxiliary
equipment. Checks generators for proper pressure and temperature, operation of feed water pumps, forced and induced
draft fans. Receives on-the-job training on duties of the Shift Engineer and provides on-the-job training to the Boiler Firer Trainees. Performs other duties as assigned. Works in areas that contain asbestos.
