Term Assistant Professor of Fisheries Technology
Serve as a faculty member for the UAS Fisheries Technology program, located in Sitka, Alaska. Work closely with the Fisheries Technology program manager, UAS faculty and staff, State and Federal agency personnel, students and other fisheries related business owners, operators, and managers.
Responsibilities include education, demonstration, providing outreach programs in fisheries management, aquaculture, and teaching assignments that include introductory aquaculture courses. Student advising and mentorship is expected.
The objectives for this position are:
1) to teach Fisheries Technology classes and labs
2) to develop and enhance already modularized Fisheries Technology coursework for asynchronous delivery
3) to teach semester-intensive salmon culture program each spring
4) to maintain and enhance partnerships with the Alaska aquaculture industry
This is a full time, 9-month grant-funded term faculty appointment with funding for 3 academic years: through 5/2021. This position supports the National Science Foundation, Advanced Technical Education grant awarded to the University of Alaska Southeast's Fisheries Technology Program.
Employment is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Seasonal travel throughout Alaska is required. Successful applicant must relocate to/reside in Sitka, Alaska.

Personal Education Planner: Behavioral Health Specialist
The Personal Education Planner (PEP) - Behavioral Health Specialist primarily provides individualized advisement and support to UAS Sitka students of career-ready endorsements, certificates, and associate degrees throughout the course of their studies at UAS Sitka as part of the Compete to Complete Title III grant activities. Direct guidance will be delivered through face-to-face and a variety of distance methods utilized by the PEP in association with other members of the Title III team working on the "Complete to Compete: Approach to Student Success for Alaska Native and High-Need Students" University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus, Title III grant.
Using excellent listening, coaching, problem-solving, and referral skills, the PEP will establish meaningful advisory relationships with students. Primary duties include supporting new students and connecting existing students to academic and other resources. Each PEP will manage at least one online or hybridized co-curricular learning community to engage both local and online learners, fostering interactions with peers, staff, and faculty beyond the classroom.
In this position you will also provide support for students with educational barriers and risk factors related to behavioral health and wellness. This will be accomplished through non-clinical preventative education and early intervention approaches, including referrals to internal and external support resources and clinicians when appropriate. You will provide consultation, support, and behavioral health tools and resources to the campus community and contribute to preventive knowledge programming and outreach activities.
This is a 12-month, full-time position funded by a five-year federal Title III grant awarded to Alaska Native-serving institutions of higher education; grant term ends 9/30/2020.
Successful applicant must relocate/reside in Sitka. Some outreach travel and work on nights/weekends will be required.
