Position Summary:

Academic Advisor / Recruiting Coordinator - School of Management The School of Management Dean's Office is seeking an organized, friendly, and motivated Student Advisor/Recruiting Coordinator who enjoys working as part of a team. This position is a 12-month full time benefited position with regular business hours (Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm). Occasional travel to college/career fairs may be required. This position serves as one of three academic advisors for the School of Management. The SOM has undergraduate programs in Accounting, Business Administration, Bachelors of Sports and Recreation Business, Bachelors of Applied Management, and Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Our graduate degree programs include Masters in Business Administration, MS in Resource and Applied Economics, and Masters of Security and Disaster Management. Duties:

10%Coordinate Articulation Agreements: Assist in the formulation of Memorandums of Understandings (MOUs) and articulation agreements with community colleges throughout the country to aid in increasing enrollments for all SOM programs. Communicate with interested colleges about our programs and degree requirements. Answer questions and serve as a liason between the community colleges and UAF. Develop drafts and work with the credit transfer team, the Provost Office, and UAF Legal Counsel to ensure that all agreements conform to UAF requirements for articulation agreements.Essential
20%Student Recruiting: Work with the SOM academic advising team to plan, coordinate, and implement recruiting and retention activities. Make recommendations to the SOM Executive Committee on recruiting and retention strategies. Assist with collecting data and writing the enrollment management report. Communicate SOM program information to prospective undergraduate and graduate students via in-person, phone, and email contact. Meet with students and parents during campus visits to provide program information and answer questions. Answer routine inquiries and provide information to internal and external audiences. Market SOM programs by attending college and career fairs locally and outside of Fairbanks. Speak to incoming students at UAF recruiting functions and high school advising events. Responsible for planning and coordinating SOM recruiting and orientation events.Essential
70%Academic Advising: Perform academic advising at the undergraduate and graduate level for all School of Management programs. Advise students both in person and over the phone, respond to email inquires, and coordinate advising needs with faculty members. Interpret test scores to determine student placement and ensure timely completion of student paperwork related to degree completion and graduation. Assess special circumstances and approve exceptions to regular process as needed. Coordinate with SOM faculty and the Financial Aid Office on annual scholarship awards.Essential

The academic advisor meets with students and parents during campus visits and works closely with the UAF Admissions office.

Duties will also involve attending college and career fairs locally and outside of Fairbanks, speaking to incoming students at UAF events, and meeting with students at local high schools. This position will also be involved in creating articulation agreements with community colleges around the country for all SOM programs.

This position requires a high level of confidentiality and a thorough understanding of FERPA. The successful candidate must have the ability to interpret, apply, and communicate UAF academic policies and procedures.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have the ability to provide high quality advising to incoming and current students. Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of students. Ability to work with faculty, staff, and students in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to understand and communicate UAF academic policies and procedures.

Required Experience: At least 3 years of relevant work experience. Prefer work experience in higher education.

Typical Education or Training: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience or training in a professional environment.

Probationary Period:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.   During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.  Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
