UAA and the Office of Enrollment Services seeks a Director of Financial Aid. The Director of Financial Aid manages the day to day operations of a fast paced, energetic and student centered office within the division of Student Affairs.
Create a departmental assessment plan and conduct ongoing qualitative and quantitative assessments to measure and demonstrate program impact and performance of Financial Aid's primary functions. Analyze and interpret complex data to drive program improvements and identify trends in affordability and accessibility. Prepare reports of findings for internal and stakeholder dissemination to aid in decisions around strategic enrollment strategies. Coordinate with other University and Statewide Offices, as needed to compile data and complete reports. Establish and document department goals that are aligned with UAA’s Strategic Plan and identify specific strategies for achieving them. 20 Policy and Planning
Interpret, develop, implement, and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and college policies related to financial aid and scholarships.
Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures which ensure the successes of all function of financial aid awarding process including: preparing and delivering financial aid awards to students in an effective manner; all aspects of financial aid processing including document collection, budgeting, awarding, FAFSA verification, and loan certification; counseling to students and families through each step of the financial aid process; and in collaboration with admissions the development of a communication plan for students and families which walks them through each step of the financial aid and student finance model.

25 Leadership and Collaboration
Provide leadership and manage a staff which includes professional and classified staff for area of Financial Aid. Set office-wide strategic priorities, expectations, and measures of success. Educate financial aid staff on University-wide strategic goals and help translate goals into tangible and appropriate action plans. Establish effective channels of communication to promote teamwork and collegiality throughout the Office of Financial Aid that includes financial aid advisors at community campuses, as well as across UAA and Enrollment Services.
Provide leadership and vision to larger campus community specific to areas of reducing financial barriers, increasing financial literacy and maximizing available resources to the greatest extent possible. Articulate and interpret financial aid policies to the University and community. Support University events by providing financial aid information at orientations, outreach events, and college fairs. Serve on University committees and task forces as assigned.
Work closely with the Business Office to communicate current practices for student bill payment. Coordinate communication with Admissions, Student Services and Advising to ensure accurate information is communicated to students to assist them in making solid financial decisions and develop strategies for new and returning students which promote sound financial planning for purposes of successfully financing the academic goals of each student.

40 Operational Oversight & Compliance
Oversee full-services financial aid processing, including document collection, budgeting, awarding, FAFSA verification, and loan certification for college related programs. Monitor student Satisfactory Academic Progress for all students. Review financial aid eligibility for students and allocate funds to students accordingly.
Provide leadership and direction around processes related to the disbursement of funds. Review return of title IV calculations. Demonstrate attitude of quality student service to students and their families. Maintain current knowledge of federal and institutional policies and procedures regulating student aid and keep up to date with best practices. Manage processes to allow for efficient and accurate processing of financial aid. Complete regular audits and maintain compliance with all regulations.
Interpret and apply federal and state regulations, laws, and guidelines for all student financial aid programs to ensure UAA remains in compliance. Prepare and submit state and federal reports (ex: FISAP, Gainful Employment) and audit material, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Keep the Program Participation Agreement (E-App) up-to-date.
Establish annual cost of attendance, construct student budgets, and determine packaging policies based on available allocations and prior year utilization. Keep current on best practices in needs analysis and recommend improvements to student aid procedures/policies to ensure equity and compliance for the distribution of institutional and campus-based student aid funds.
Serve as financial aid authority for the non-renewal of athletic scholarships and the student appeal process. Make final determinations for student’s appealing denials of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals. This position is part of a dynamic 5 person leadership team within Enrollment Services which comprises Admissions and Recruitment, Financial Aid, Office of the Registrar, Student Information, International Students Services, and Military and Veteran Student Services. This position will provide key leadership and direction for area of Financial Aid centered around reducing financial barriers for students and working towards strategic enrollment goals for the university. This individual will be responsible for setting vision and direction for professional, classified and student staff that not only ensures compliance and timely processing, but assists in educating students and families about policies, processes and options which aid in financial planning and educational achievement. We are looking for an individual with a thorough understanding of best practices surrounding title IV, compliance, and student financial aid strong supervision background who can develop a dynamic team all centered around the common goal of student success.
Knowledge of best practices in financial aid administration.
Advanced oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated management and leadership ability. Ability to define problems, interpret data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Previous experience in student service oriented office environment. Effectiveness in working with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Knowledge of federal and state financial Aid regulations. Ability to motivate staff. Ability for critical and logical thinking, good judgement and problem solving. Strong leadership and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A minimum of five years experience in student financial aid at an accredited institution(s), with substantial progressively responsible leadership and management experience in financial aid or enrollment management.
Previous experience with compliance. Preferred experience at a large public institution. Familiarity with Ellucian/Banner. Strong technical skills.
Typical Education or Training:
Masters degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Successful candidate must have at least a bachelor's degree.
Grade 83, exempt, Full-Time, 12 months per year
