Position Summary:

Come join the HRIS team at the University of Alaska. Our team maintains the HR/Payroll system for the entire university system. If you are looking for a position that will challenge you and offer growth, this is the place. Our team has many projects planned and there will be plenty of fun things to work on. We are looking for a HRIS Systems Specialist 1 or 2. The placement will be based upon the experience and eduction of the person chosen to join our team. The Specialists are the front-line customer services positions who assist end users troubleshoot and identify problems with the HIRS/Payroll system for the University of Alaska.


20HR Specialist 1 will enter and update project tickets in the Cherwell tracking system. Resolve assigned incidents and tasks. Conduct and validate tasks in support of testing plans of new processes/software/procedures.Essential
20The HR Specialist 1 will independently identify, research, and analyze HR data, processing errors, problems, and programming, and procedural problems. The HR Specialist 2 will perform the duties listed above and recommend procedural or processing changes.Essential
25The HR Specialist 1 will be the frontline interaction with customers. Assessing one-on-one customer needs. Providing positive customer service to all internal and external customers. Monitor incoming help desk emails, phone calls, and requests from campuses. Provide end user support and assistance to resolve issues. Participate in A-Team meeting, representing SW HR, and providing administrative support. The HR Specialist 2 will perform the duties listed above and also train and assist end users to resolve current issues and make recommendations to prevent future issues. Coordinate with EAS as needed.Essential
35HR Specialist 1 will assist with and support the implementation and maintenance of systemwide software and processes. Follow procedures for processing system maintenance, changes and updates during month-end, quarter-end, calendar year-end, and fiscal year-end. Generate reports as requested in TOAD, SQL Plus, and Access. Have knowledge of and be able to apply general HR principles, including DOL, BOR, IRS, and CBA requirements. Update and maintain website and forms as requested. The HR Specialist 2 will perform the duties listed above and run advanced queries and write basic queries as needed. Make recommendations for enhanced end-user website experience.Essential



HR Specialist 1 -
*Requires basic knowledge of HR (payroll, personnel, benefits, recruitment, budget) including HR processes, HR theory and HR Compliance.
*Requires basic level knowledge of MS Access, Oracle Databrowser, or other database reporting tools.
*Requires working knowledge of database theory and database structure.
*Requires intermediate level MS word and excel.
*Requires analytical and problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.
*Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and customer service skills. Must be able to communicate technical ideas to end users in a way that can be easily understood.
*Must have organizational and follow-up skills."
*Requires ability to learn entry level programming.
*Must be able to adapt to new computer programs with ease.
*Ability to gather and analyze data. Must be able to interpret regulations and contracts independently.

HR Specialist 2 -
*All of the items above, plus:
*Must have a basic understanding of the University of Alaska system and how information flows between different functional areas.
*Requires basic knowledge of Banner HR, SQL Plus, and SecureShell.
*Must be skilled at identifying and actively addressing problems.


Required Experience

HR Systems Specialist 1: Minimum 1-year experience in Human Resources, Business, or Information Technology fields.
HR System Specialist 2: Minimum 2 years experience in Human Resources, Business, or Information Technology fields.


Typical Education and Training

Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
