Position Summary:

The Arctic Domain Awareness Center (ADAC) hosted at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is seeking a Sr. Research Professional to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology (S&T), Office of University Programs (OUP), Center of Excellence (COE). This position is soft funded contingent and subject to renewal on satisfactory progress and availability of funds. The position is full time (40 hours per week).

50ADAC’s Research Professional supports under the general supervision of the Executive Director in planning, analyzing and providing solutions to address ADAC’s current and future research program. The Research Professional investigates and develops proposals that enables research sponsor diversification, to include coordination and providing suitable proposals to meet future research needs across U.S. Federal agencies. In accordance with ADAC’s research management the Center Research Professional provides the Center leadership, routine analysis of on-going project execution to include analyzing research method, milestones, metrics and transition progress to meet customer expectations.Essential

ADAC’s Sr. Research Professional under limited direction and supervision supports the Executive Director in planning, analyzing and providing solutions to address ADAC’s current and future research program.  The Research Professional investigates and develops proposals that enables research sponsor diversification, to include coordination and providing suitable proposals to meet future research needs across U.S. Federal agencies.  In accordance with ADAC’s research management the Center Sr. Research Professional provides the Center leadership, routine analysis of on-going project execution to include analyzing research method, milestones, metrics and transition progress to meet customer expectations.  In coordination and as assigned by ADAC Executive Director, the Research Professional supports Center outreach with International and U.S. Federal, State of Alaska, Tribal and local collaborators.  Finally, the Research Professional will support ADAC’s research collaboration within the University of Alaska, supporting efforts to improve research synergies with other UA research institutions.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Advanced knowledge of research methods and analytical procedures.
Advanced knowledge of standard reporting procedures as it relates to Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is preferred.
Ability to use computerized tools to develop models for use by others and to organize and analyze information and communicate findings via rapport reports.
Knowledge of fiscal restrictions associated with research monies.
Ability to communicate findings for internal- and external- reporting.
Ability to successfully lead the work of others.
Ability to communicate with external customers, primarily Departments of Defense and Homeland Security personnel to communicate, inform, and support the activities of the ADAC Center.

Required Experience: 

Two years (2) years of direct military experience or at the postgraduate level in a field relevant to the research (preferably science, math, business, logistics), or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Military experience can be substituted for another applicable career field; however primary clients are the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security. Therefore, candidate needs to demonstrate/show a proven record with working with these clients.

Preferred Experience: Prior military experience in Department of Defense or experience in Department of Homeland Security enterprises.

Typical Education or Training:

Master’s degree preferably in science, math, or business fields or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
