The Kuskokwim Campus is in search of a Term Assistant Professor of English.
This position is part of the core academic team that supports the University of Alaska, College of Rural Community Development, Kuskokwim Campus (KuC) bipartite mission of performing teaching,and public service. KuC is is a two-year, associate degree conferring campus with selected bachelor's degrees, and has a bachelor's degree in Yup'ik language and studies exclusive to KuC. This position works with the Learning Center coordinator who is charged with supporting development of writing skills of KuC students. KuC students generally qualify as English as a Second Language and Limited English Proficiency status.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with analytical and holistic writing assessment.
Commitment to and demonstrated success with teaching writing as a process.
Ability to diversify instruction for underprepared, LEP and non-traditional students.
Familiarity with canonical and non-canonical, prose, poetic and non-fiction literary texts.
Skill in teaching academic reading.
Capable of using online learning environments/platforms (Blackboard, Moodle, etc.)
Ability to teach without reliable or sufficient real-time internet access.
Two years successful teaching experience in English/Writing at college level (will consider more extensive high school experience).
Prefer candidates who are multilingual and have life/work experience in rural settings.
Required Education or Training:
A Master of Arts degree (M.A., M.A.T. or M.F.A) in English is required for this position.
