20Outreach/Recruitment: Identify student cohorts, recruitment and outreach targets; provide general communication to students and partners; conduct on-site recruitment as needed and funding allows. Make appropriate referrals for students to take advantage of opportunities. Support the development of a college going culture. Promote the DANSRD, UAF and CRCD across the state.Essential
30Enrollment Management: Maintain student records and office files as required for registration, advising, financial aid planning, LLPs, Student Learning Outcome Assessments (SLOA) and degree attainment; Prepare all reports and documents required, including statistical data. Manage graduate student enrollment.Essential
50Advising Advise students supported by the Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development. Serve as a liaison between students and UAF entities as well as non-University entities. Advocate for student action and decisions. Meet with individual students to establish academic plans. Support retention strategies through a comprehensive evaluation of academic history, placement data, and ongoing assessment of student interests, motivation and financial needs. Utilize knowledge of student development theory in the areas of learning style, first year and/or first generation college student, retention, transitions from small/rural schools to urban communities/colleges, cross cultural communication, Alaska Native culture,second language learners, and academic placement and includes administering course placement and career guidance. Develop a future course plan with students, activate student registration access on BANNER upon completion of semester course selection, approve course withdrawals and additions, and refer individual students to specialized resources. Write petitions and memos. Maintain current scholarship and grant opportunities and applications on file for current and prospective students. Assist students and parent(s) with completion of the FAFSA application. Coordinate with UA academic departments to approve petitions as needed for transfer evaluations of coursework from the exchange institution. Assist in establishing priorities for course development and collaborative initiatives. Responsible for setting goals with students and assessing outcomes. Assist with graduate application completion, develop a future course plan, and complete documents needed for successful Master’s student admission.Essential

The Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development is seeking a full-time Student Success Coordinator.  This position will be responsible for supporting students in all facets who are enrolled within the Rural Development or Alaska Native Studies degree program. The incumbent will be highly organized, customer service oriented and focused on supporting students through degree completion. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of university environment. Ability to comprehend and apply university policies and procedures as they relate to students. Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing. Ability to effectively communicate with Alaska Native and rural students. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work as part of a team. Aptitude for comprehending another's situation. Knowledge of university system to be able to refer students to appropriate area for assistance. Knowledge of best practices, federal laws and legal issues associated with and applicable to student services and higher education. Ability to troubleshoot situations to determine the best course of action. Ability to work as an influential part of a team. Knowledge of decision-making strategies and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret information to determine placement.

Preferred: Knowledge of BANNER and relevant database search engines.

Required Experience

Two years relevant experience required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Bachelor's degree in relevant field required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Term Funded, Full-Time, 12 months
