Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks a dynamic Director of Admissions to lead the university's recruitment strategy and provide strategic direction to the multidisciplinary admissions team. The director will oversee recruitment, admissions processing, communications and new student orientation.

Duties:

10Identify processes for improvement and direct changes to processes; Promote continuous improvement to services and operations. Advise AVCs of concerns or potential action items. Analyze and research solutions to complex problems - provide guidance to leadership. Coordinate, administer, organize and manage the daily operations of the SA offices, and at times, assist in the administrative functions of the overall departments. Projects will at times include Admissions, ASUAF, Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities, Dining Services and Contract Operations, Disability Services, Financial Aid, Military and Veteran Services, Nanook Recreation, Registrar, Residence Life, Student Health and Counseling, Wood Center Student Union.Essential
10Oversee communications to prospective students and new students to ensure consistent and effective messaging. Supervise planning and approval while monitoring the execution of communication plans. Communication plans will make use of various media (written materials, online by email and chat, telecounseling and social media) with prospective students, applicants and parents. Manage implementation and ongoing maintenance/improvement of the University’s CRM.Essential
10Provide supervision, management, vision and direction for multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality recruitment and yield. Hire, train, evaluate admissions team. Supervise university recruitment strategy development and implementation. Responsible for ensuring all staff are on task and reaching their enrollment goals. Oversee diversity initiatives in conjunction with associate vice chancellor and vice chancellor.Essential
10Supervise all aspects of admissions application processing, to include: supervision of the associate director of admissions for operations; oversight of Banner and CRM data entry; bridges from Banner to CRM and other systems; communications with prospective students; customer service for incoming students.Essential
15Develop admissions plan and recruitment goals in consultation with associate vice chancellor and chancellor’s cabinet. Monitor progress toward goals and hold admissions staff accountable. Analyze recruitment and enrollment related data to determine effectiveness and make data-driven decisions. Gather and provide outcomes data. Provide strategic guidance and direction for the department by aligning resources with strategic priorities while leading continuous analysis of needs, effectiveness and efficiencies. Maximize use of technology in all operational and strategic aspects of admissions.Essential
20Responsible for providing strategic communications support to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and raising the profile of the Division of Student Affairs. Support a unified approach to the campus's brand and identity guidelines within the division and provide consultation to departments and units on how best to market their programs and services to students and to tell the UAF story. Proactively assist in uniting the division's departments in a common brand and messaging approach to recruit and retain high achieving students from diverse backgrounds, support retention and enhance the undergraduate student experience. Develop and implement long-range, strategic communications plan for Student Affairs. Communicate priorities and goals to staff within the division. Formulate responses to inquiries from internal and external entities.Essential
5Collaborate with all levels of the university to build effective relationships and communicate recruitment strategies and actions. Attend various meetings on behalf of associate vice chancellor.Essential
5Set and monitor admissions budget. Support the budgeting for enrollment management units of student affairs.Essential
5Strategically select contracts and name buys to support university enrollment goals. Complete profiles and updates to various recruitment-related websites as needed. Coordinate marketing and branding messages for the entire university. In coordination with University Relations, review, revise and rewrite marketing publications (viewbook, search pieces, etc).Essential
5Supervise planning, organizing and execution of student recruitment events such as new student orientation and open houses. Manage budget and authorize purchasing decisions. Work with associate director of admissions for recruitment to ensure events remain within allotted budget, that participation is tracked, follow-up occurs and outcomes are assessed.Essential
5Work with associate vice chancellor to develop strategic plan for use of institutional scholarship funds to meet enrollment goals. After plan is approved, identify students who meet scholarship requirements, notify students, assign and track awards, manage scholarship budget.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication. Advanced computer literacy. Positive attitude, strong sense of initiative and well-developed leadership/team building skills. Proven record of project management. Strong experience supporting busy senior level administrators in a fast-paced environment.

Strong composition skills; copy editing and proofing of high volume correspondence, marketing, and collateral materials. Excellent command of English. Experience in integrated marketing, branding and media relations. Experience with executive level and mission-critical communication strategies. Experience in analyzing situations and giving sound professional judgment on strategic communications. Experience collaborating with designers, web developers, photographers, multimedia specialists, content developers, and social media communicators.

Political acumen and sensitivities to the differing perspectives and political circumstances within all levels of the organization and the Office of the Chancellor and external constituencies. Use tact and diplomacy to troubleshoot issues that arise.

Required Experience:

Minimum five years of professional experience in higher education, leadership experience recruitment/admissions required. Five years management experience in a business or higher education experience in a business or higher education setting my substitute for this requirement.

Typical Education or Training:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

Probationary Period:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.   During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.  Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
