Position Summary:

The Sitka Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast is seeking qualified and energetic applicants for a Student Services Manager position located in Sitka, Alaska. The Manager plays a critical role in ensuring our students (both local and distance) receive the highest quality student services available through monitoring mission effectiveness of Student Services, and creating/implementing long range and strategic plans. Will also direct, manage and supervise staff and functions of the Student Services department. Successful applicant will have progressively responsible management and organizational skills, and expertise in two or more areas in: academic advising, recruiting, admissions, records and registration, financial aid, student retention, or testing and learning resources. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, with three years progressively responsible experience and two years of supervising experience. 40DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT: -- Monitor mission effectiveness of Student Services with respect to the UAS and campus Strategic Plans. -- Create and implement long range and strategic plans for the department in coordination with campus administration. -- Enforce UA BOR academic and student behavior policies on the Sitka Campus. -- Serve on committees in various roles as assigned by Campus Director. -- Work with community and regional leaders to develop and maintain relevant partnerships/programs. -- Represent the Sitka Campus at community events as required. -- Coordinate interaction between Student Services department and other local, regional and statewide peers. -- Participate in regional and statewide planning as required. -- Ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, processes, policies, procedures and accreditation standards. -- Direct, manage, and supervise staff and functions of the Student Services department, such as (but not limited to): developing position descriptions, hiring and evaluating staff, approving time sheets and leave requests. -- Ensure cross function training and staff scheduling for consistent department coverage.Essential
60DEPARTMENT FUNCTION OVERSIGHT: 1) Coordinate efforts within the department to provide the following: -- Ensure comprehensive advising services are provided, such as (but not limited to): enrollment, academic, transfer, financial aid, career/vocational and referrals. -- Evaluate, develop, and modify advising policies and procedures as needed. -- Coordinate and manage programs, such as (but not limited to): Dual Credit and Sitka Start -- Organize and manage student orientation. -- Oversee Student Government and student leadership activities. -- Develop, coordinate and implement campus recruiting strategies and activities. -- Participate in campus marketing, publication planning and development. -- Participate in developing and implementing student retention strategies. -- Monitor enrollment trends and provide in depth analysis and interpretation of data that is gathered/received, including producing relevant reports. -- Coordinate with UAS Dean of Students (as appropriate) in the areas of student retention, responding to crisis situations involving students, and regional reporting compliance. 2) As required, provide the following types of counseling to students in the following areas: enrollment, academic, transfer, financial aid, career/vocational, and referrals.Essential

Salary Information:

$2,065.60 bi-weekly; $53,705.60 annual. Advance placement available depending on experience and education


  • Progressively responsible management and organization skills.
  • Effective communication, professionalism, collaboration, and team building skills
  • Expertise in two or more of the following areas for providing a comprehensive program of student services for local and distance students:  academic advising, recruiting, admissions, records and registration, financial aid, student retention, or testing and learning resources.
  • Beyond entry level computer skills/knowledge in use of word processing, database, spreadsheets, communication, and presentation software.

Required Experience:

  • Three years progressively responsible relevant experience.
  • Two years of supervising experience.


  • Work experience in a higher education institution.
  • Experience working with diverse, non-traditional student populations.

Education or Training Required:

Bachelor’s degree in related field; Master’s degree in related field preferred.
