The School of Allied Health in the College of Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage, is seeking a full-time, term assistant professor to teach surgical technology and prerequisites courses in the School of Allied Health.
Summary of School of Allied Health and Surgical Technology Program: The School of Allied Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage is one of the largest divisions within the College of Health and encompasses the following programs: Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting, Fire and Emergency Services, Pharmacy Technology, Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Science, Physical Therapist Assistant, Dietetics & Nutrition, and Surgical Technology.
The Surgical Technology Program offers an Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology, and prepares students to become certified Surgical Technologists. Students graduate as competent and ethical Surgical Technologists with the knowledge and skills for entry into high demand careers in the healthcare industry. The Surgical Technology program makes an important contribution to the College of Health's mission to advance the health and well being of people and communities.
Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse environment.
Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, as well as computer literacy.
Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
Significant experience in Surgical Technology, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
Teaching experience in the Surgical Technology or other health disciplines with a commitment to student-centered learning, student engagement, and teaching excellence.
Documented evidence of successful use of instructional technologies and ability to communicate effectively as a teacher.
Experience leading or working in a diverse workforce in a multi-cultural setting.
Experience with curriculum development and assessment; experience in program management.
Familiarity with Surgical Technology training considerations and needs in Alaska.
Must hold NBSTA-approved credentials in surgical technology (CST).
Associate degree with extensive experience in the Surgical Technology field.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
