The Department of Residence Life is seeking highly motivated students for work on our Maintenance support crew. Selected applicants play an integral role in minor maintenance tasks, programming support, furniture distribution, residence preparation, and hall support as part of this dynamic department. Daily tasks vary dependent upon priority. Qualified applicants will demonstrate high motivation, ability to be independent, high mechanical aptitude, some previous experience, and good communication.
Our student maintenance crew will assist with minor maintenance and repair activities, coordinating activities for a function or project; assisting a skilled crafts or trades person; assisting with cleaning residential units and minor housing maintenance tasks. Moving furniture, grounds maintenance, carpet cleaning, shoveling, prioritizing maintenance requests, supporting Residence Life programs and activities. Relocation/surplus of property associated with various renovation/relocation projects.
As an employee of Residence Life, you will be expected to adhere to the highest standards of ethical and moral behavior with a positive demeanor that works well with teams. Ability to operate miscellaneous power tools and equipment.
- To be arranged by Residence Life Facility Services, 20 hours per week during the academic year.
If retained for summer full time employment, room scholarship may be available.
- May require mechanical or technical ability/knowledge.
- Ability to operate tools, power tools, and other mechanical devices.
- Ability to work without supervision, prioritize, initiate required work tasks, and work in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly with co-workers and residents of campus facilities.
- Knowledge of safe handling procedures for cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds.
- Three (3) years driving experience with a valid drivers' license.
- Be able to pass University's safe driving certification test.
- Demonstrated education and experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position and to have acquired the necessary skill and abilities.

This is a Student Assistant B; starting pay $10.00.
Applicant must be enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.
NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.
