Position Summary:

Duties:

If you are interested in working in University Relations as an events student in a Student Assistant C position, please submit your application for consideration. This is a fast-paced position that assists with all major UAF events including commencement activities, Golden Days parade, the Tanana Valley Fair, and Chancellor’s presentations. All positions are in the University Relations office in the Eielson Building on campus. The Student Assistant C position available right now is communications and events assistant.

Communications and events assistant: Assists with coordinating and promotional activities on campus as well as researching, gathering, and working with the campus and Fairbanks community on floor plans and other aspects of events. Will also assist with preparing and setting up meetings, presentations, and other communications and promotional materials.

Assists with helping coordinate institutional events and promotional activities. Other administrative duties may also be assigned. Must be able to work with limited supervision as needed. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move boxes of print publications.  May be asked to walk distances around campus to post fliers or other deliveries.  Must be able to perform both of these with or without accommodations. May include occasional evening or weekend hours. Please include experience on your materials as it relates to the job description.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Position requires the knowledge and skill to operate computers and equipment noted in the job description, demonstrated skills in the position applied for and the ability to exercise independent judgment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, WordPress, database, data entry and customer service. Previous work experience and familiarity with Macintosh computers. Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. Provide own transportation to various institutional event locations. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move boxes of print publications with or without accommodations. Ability to problem solve. Ability to write, edit and proofread grammatical U.S. English. Be able to work efficiently, independently with minimal supervision, get along well with others and learn quickly through experience and instruction.

Applicant must be enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student. 

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.

This is a Student Assistant C; minimum starting pay $10.50.

Background Check:

The successful applicant is required to complete a background check.  Any offer of employment is contingent on the background check.

At-Will:

Pursuant to Board of Regents’ Policy 04.01.055.B, temporary, extended temporary, adjunct, student, casual labor, regular new hire probationary employees and those positions designated by the president as officers and senior administrators of the university are employed at-will.
