University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Operations Grounds Shop seeks an individual to be a part of the crew that maintains the campus summer and winter. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys being outdoors most of their work day, must be willing to work in adverse conditions in both seasons. You will be responsible for supporting the successful operations of the general services provided by Facilities Services Department of Operations to UAF campus.
**A valid Alaska Driver License is required to hold the position. Previous experience within the grounds maintenance or construction trades is preferred, but not required to obtain an interview, as long as your resume and references demonstrate a well-established work ethic and ability to learn. The Maintenance Service Worker 3 can perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance and care of University building and grounds, and landscapes which includes the operation of grounds keeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping to beautify the campus. Winter will involve harsh temperatures and physical demands, de-icing and clearing snow from walks, gathering areas and stairs. Providing excellent customer service while working in an efficient manner and promoting safety.
Must be willing to work extra hours as requested to perform this job successfully. Also, performs laboring or other semi-skilled duties including drilling, assists tradesmen when directed. Demonstrated experience working with pressure washing equipment. May require travel to remote sites for extended period of time. Must be willing and able to lift and /or move up to 70lbs.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: *A valid Alaska Driver License is required to hold the position. *Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a commercial setting in all types of landscape maintenance including but not limited to; ornamental tree and shrub care, production and care of annual and perennial flowers, greenhouse operation and procedures, interior plant scraping, pest identification and eradication, basic horticultural principles and snow removal is required. *Experience in equipment usage should include; trucks, tractors, loaders and tools common to the trade. *Knowledge of small equipment including; riding mowers, tillers, push mowers and snow blowers. *Ability and willingness to work in outside weather conditions. *Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures. *Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. *Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.
Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education/Training: Must have and maintain a Valid Driver License.
Three (3) years multi-trade experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Information: MSW3/Step 7 $17.64/hr.; (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule - http://www.alaska.edu/labor/local-6070/ . This is a full-time, benefited position. Union represented.

L6070- At-will: Pursuant to Article 1.7 of the Local 6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, upon initial hire Local 6070 Bargaining Unit Members are probationary for the first six (6) months of work. During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.
