Duties:

10Assist with processing new children’s, young adult, and graphic novels under the supervision of the librarian.Essential
10Keep the children’s room tidy and organized. Pick up stray books and toys at least once per day and put away. Shelve all children’s books. Straighten the shelves. Put out monthly display in children’s room.Essential
35Provide outreach services to children. Plan and implement weekly children''s programs in the library. Plan and implement outreach activities for children. Plan summer reading programs under supervision of the librarian. Recruit volunteers as needed to help with children’s programs. Keep statistics on all youth programming attendance and report to the librarian.Essential
35Work on service desk. Provide reference services and assist patrons, refer questions to the librarian as required. Issue/ receive library materials using library computer system; reshelve materials; issue library cards. Assist patrons with signing up for computers and providing computer assistance as needed. Pulling and managing holds and mailing them out twice a weekEssential

5Process overdue notices, incoming mail and other clerical duties as assigned.Essential

The Kuskokwim Consortium Library is hiring a Youth Services Assistant! This person will be in charge of planning and promoting all children’s activities at the library and engaging in outreach to the community. They will also keep the Children’s Reading Room organized and advise on which children’s materials to acquire. In addition to that, they will assist with normal library functions, such as checking in and out materials and answering patron questions. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about helping the public and has a strong ambition to help children discover a love of reading. This position is full time and comes with benefits.

Minimum Educational Requirement: High school graduation or GED. 

Experience: At least six months of experience working in a library or working with children in a library or educational setting. Experience with children’s programming or community outreach preferred.

Salary: 20.81/hr, DOE.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.

Probationary:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.   During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.  Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
