Position Summary:

This position provides technical and analytics support for the fundraising mission of the University by administering the Tableau platform and creating software-based solutions for data insights into fundraising activity. This position delivers data insights to fundraising units necessary for analysis and strategic planning.

Duties:

10Provide regular training on the Tableau platform to various user groups: development and alumni staff, academic and administrative management and leadership allowing users to understand the underlying data trends related to fundraising success. 15Meet regularly with various user groups to ensure data and insights needs are being met. Create and manage electronic distribution groups for disbursement of various insights reports: key performance indicators, campaign goals and success, resource allocation, fundraising return on investment. Plan for integration and development of reports and analysis-based computing resources and advise individuals and departments on various Tableau applications and the interaction of various systems on all multiple platforms and operating systems. Provide user support and trouble-shooting for Tableau platform.Essential
15Prepare and maintains Data connectors for a variety of data acquisitions: SQL, Oracle, Amazon Redshift, Google Analytics, Excel, Access, ODBC, Google Sheets, Raiser’s Edge Exports, nondescript data warehouses and data lakes. Develop and maintain various ELT (Extract Load Transform) processes. Prepare data for end user analysis through a variety of techniques and tools: SQL views, stored procedures, custom Tables, Tableau Prep files and Tableau Desktop files. Develop innovative solutions to complex problems involving data acquisition and delivery. Identify areas for data improvement. Perform daily data source and accuracy checks.Essential
30Perform regular updates and maintenance on Tableau server application and hardware. Analyze and diagnose server and software problems. Verify and test user experience and ensure quality on multiple platforms: Windows, Macintosh, iOS, Android, Web browsers, desktop, mobile. Troubleshoot device and platform-related problems and engineer solutions. Insure license compliance for 100+ users. Manage user accounts, provision access to data and download files and other security rights. Monitor user usage. Develop, test, document and implement Tableau applications according to published standards and methodologies. Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information resources against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.Essential
30Respond to executive, management, and user requests to create interactive solutions for reviewing and analyzing data related to fundraising (donors, alumni, constituent engagement, gifts, events, actions, funds, proposals, revenue, appeals). Create reports and dashboards for executive-level strategic overview, management-level overview, and tactical-level reports focusing on deep analysis to solve particular problems. Through insights analysis draw conclusions of various behaviors and trends, develop predictive and prescriptive models to enhance fundraising success. Develop innovative solutions on Tableau platform to complex problems. Use data and insights presentation to depict data in non-traditional ways. Document plant for project implementation and testing. Work with users and requesters to implement data and insights discovery solutions that have significant impact on UA fundraising operations.Essential

The UA Foundation acts as a service center to the University of Alaska, supporting fundraising activities of university development offices. 

This position provides technical and analytics support for the fundraising mission of the University by administering the Tableau platform and creating software-based solutions for data insights into fundraising activity. This position delivers data insights to fundraising units necessary for analysis and strategic planning.

The Insights and Reports manager works with five other data professionals in the Foundation Information Services department. The position will deliver data insights through collaborative relationships with other UA fundraising staff.  A willingness to embrace the Foundation's core values of Trust, Excellence, Service, and Teamwork is a must.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to understand needs of end users. Ability to implement data programming techniques and insights discovery solutions. Ability to guide and mentor peers and users on tasks related to insights analysis and discovery. Development of original solutions for complex problems needing data-driven solutions. Ability to make decisions on matters of data acquisition and delivery significance and implement these decisions on behalf of the University and the UA Foundation.

Required Experience:

2-3 years advanced experience with Tableau enterprise platform is a must have skill. Demonstrated mastery of Tableau platform – Desktop, Server, and Mobile. Demonstrated history of Tableau-based solutions. 2-3 years required experience in fundraising environment and use of Raiser’s Edge with particular knowledge of Raiser’s Edge fields and export processes. Demonstrated experience with SQL statements and general familiarity of MS SQL.

Typical Education or Training:

4-year degree with background in sciences and data analysis. Experience may substitute.
