Position Summary:

The Wood Center is a fun place to work while taking classes, it's the middle of campus and most events happen there. Working as an Event set up and take down helper, you will be involved in most of those events, you will get to meet a lot of people, and you will have fun doing it!

Duties:

Each successful applicant will be required to:

Give a favorable impression to the public in appearance and behavior; adapt to changes in workload; work independently with limited supervision and in cooperation with other employees; possess attention to detail/organizational skills, be able to multitask and handle difficult/stressful situations with diplomacy and finesse; enforce state laws and University regulations. Must have education/experience sufficient to perform responsibilities of the position and have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Student Laborer

Under the direct supervision of the Events Services Coordinator. Provides physical arrangements for meetings, conferences, and special programs held in and by Wood Center. Performs light building maintenance and other related duties as assigned.

Preferred that applicant be at least 21 years of age. Must obtain an Alaska Driver's License within 30 days of employment.

**STAYS ON THROUGH THE ACADEMIC YEAR**

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must have the ability to:

1. Arrange equipment neatly and orderly.

2. Know or learn to set up and test media equipment.

3. Perform light maintenance and lift heavy equipment.

4. Work with power and hand tools.

5. Work with limited supervision.

6. Enforce appropriate laws and policies.

7. Hours vary but generally M-F 7:30am-5:00pm

8. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds

Each successful applicant will be required to:

This is a Student Assistant C; starting pay $11.00

Applicant must be enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student. 

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.

Background Check:

The successful applicant is required to complete a background check. Any offer of employment is contingent on the background check.

At-Will:

Pursuant to Board of Regents’ Policy 04.01.055.B, temporary, extended temporary, adjunct, student, casual labor, regular new hire probationary employees and those positions designated by the president as officers and senior administrators of the university are employed at-will.

Training Policy:

It is the policy of the University of Alaska Fairbanks that all employees are required to attend training to meet the requirements of the positions they hold, and to complete the required training within a specified period of time to remain employed at UAF. The policy can be located at:
