Position Summary:

Temporary UAA Shuttle Driver - Part-Time/Occasional

Duties:

Temporary Shuttle Drivers are wanted for fall and spring semesters. Do you have professional driving experience driving passengers as a CDL holder?  Are you safety conscious and a wanting to join a great driving team?  Are you interested in part-time or occasional driving with summer off?  Please apply.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Applicants must hold a valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL), minimum Class C with a Passengers (P) endorsement. Candidates should be able to safely operate ADA equipped 15-32 passenger shuttle buses, with automatic transmissions. Along with a valid Alaska CDL, a candidate must a) have an excellent driving record that meets the University Category 1 Driver criteria, b) have the ability to pass a Federal DOT pre-employment drug screen, c) have sufficient knowledge of passenger vehicles to perform daily pre/post-trips inspections and daily time logs, and d) posses basic computer knowledge and skills. Any known radio 10-code is helpful, but not required. Candidates may need to complete other fleet duties as assigned.

A candidate must have a friendly, polite and helpful demeanor and be able to work with little direct supervision. Applicants must have the ability and skill to create a safe, comfortable riding environment for UAA shuttle riders, and be able to verbally present special information to riders by answering questions in a clear and concise manner.

A candidate must be flexible and if necessary, be willing to cover other driver's schedules. The UAA shuttle team is cohesive so the applicant must be willing to work alternative shifts, including early morning/late evening or nighttime hours, as well as work outside under adverse weather conditions.

The following list of tasks outlines the general duties that a UAA Shuttle Bus Driver will be expected to perform. These duties are skills and requirements specific to UAA Transportation Department and may not necessarily reflect skills required in other transportation fields.

- Obey all laws and regulations relating to operating a passenger and/or motor vehicle;
- Adhere to posted UAA shuttle schedules while operating vehicles in a safe manner;
- Provide exceptional customer service to a diverse population of University students, staff and faculty. Address riders in a friendly manner, including answering questions by clearly relaying University information;
- Accommodate ADA riders as needed based on rider requests, including mobile lift operations;
- Excellent attendance and work-schedule punctuality;
- Exhibit time management and organizational skills by maintaining accurate daily logs and time sheets
- Willingness to complete some job tasks, outside and under adverse weather conditions;
- Ability to complete assigned work schedules/routes with little direct supervision

Required Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years driving experience, including a minimum of six (6) months experience transporting passengers in a CDL vehicle with a Passenger (P) endorsement.

Typical Education or Training: 

1) High School Diploma or GED
2) Professional driving school or school bus driver training
