Position Summary:

The Nutrition Educator in the Mat-su District will teach approved nutrition curricula to eligible audiences including both direct and indirect educational methods. The successful candidate will participate in wellness activities throughout the community, teach food preparation, food safety, nutrition, and food resource management. They will recruit clients from eligible audiences and complete necessary client records as required. Job requires local travel within the District.


10Reporting. Maintain detailed and accurate records; compile client information and evaluation, financial and district travel reports, program feedback; meet monthly reporting deadlines.Essential
13Recruitment and Outreach. Recruit clients from community and other assistance organizations, may require partnerships and collaboration to reach the target audience. Represent USDA, UAF, CES, and FNP in a professional manner.Essential
2Training. Participate in monthly audio. Complete trainings as required by UAF, CES and FNP supervisors.Essential
5Communication. Communicate with partners, stakeholders CES and FNP staff. Compose social media posts, newsletters, news columns or nutrition and physical activity articles as requested by supervisor.Essential
70Teach, prepare lessons, and local travel. Teach USDA approved nutrition curriculum, food dollar management, food safety and basic cooking programs to eligible audiences. Develop and maintain a command of current curricula, the Dietary Guidelines, physical activity recommendations. Use various means to reach target audiences including direct and indirect education, maintaining educational displays, offering food preparation, and physical activity demonstrations.Participate in wellness committees or other coalitions which support our mission when appropriate and as requested by supervisor.Essential

Pay Grade Range:

This recruitment is for a Training & Development 1, Grade 75, starting at $16.99/hr; DOE.



The incumbent must have the ability to work independently, follow written and oral instructions. They must have prior experience with culturally diverse, low-income persons and/or assistance agencies. Must have basic understanding of nutrition and physical activity.


Required Experience:

Six months experience leading formal and informal education activities or providing nutrition or community health services to individuals or groups.


Typical Education or Training:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University’s discretion.
