100 Under the Direction of Bookstore management, this position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks which provide efficient day to day service to the customers and operations of the UAA Bookstore.
Welcomes and connects with customers, greeting and offering assistance with a friendly smile.
Generates customer satisfaction; responds appropriately to customer concerns.
Communicates customer complaints/concerns to supervisor.
Assists customers in locating and purchasing their textbooks, school supplies, and other merchandise items.
Honors customers by providing quick friendly, and personal service. Accurately processes transaction through the POS and counts back change to customers.
Store Operations Quality:
Follows store policy and procedures for operations.
Follows standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating, and storing products.
Maintains high standard of cleanliness in all areas of the store.
Presents oneself professionally and demonstrates clear communication in all customer and co-worker interactions.
Follows all cash handling procedures and cash register policies to ensure accountability of store funds.
Checks in textbooks and merchandise in accordance with established procedures.
Assists in the Bookstore''s cafes, either taking orders and ringing up sales or making cafe related drinks. Training will be provided; associates will be expected to obtain and maintain a food handler''s card.

The UAA Bookstore is hiring a pool of temporary associates. We are looking for cashiers, textbook aides, and baristas. Associates will work directly with students, staff, faculty, and visitors of the University of Alaska Anchorage Campus.
The UAA Bookstore hours are 7:30am-7pm Monday-Thursday, 7:30am-6pm Friday, and an occasional Saturday every semester.
We are looking for outgoing, upbeat, self starting, organized candidates who want to work in a positive and supportive work environment.
Six-months cash handling and customer service experience is preferred, as is a basic knowledge of a retail Point-Of-Sale (cash registering system), but not required. Ability to perform various cashier, customer service, and inventory duties in the operation of the Bookstore. Ability to operate a computer point-of-sale cash register to perform cashiering duties; count money, make correct change, and issue receipts; prepare and balance cash register as assigned. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including a copier/scanner/fax machine, computer and assigned software; input a variety of Bookstore data into assigned computer system.
Training will be provided; associates are expected to obtain and maintain a MOA food handler's card.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to take direction from Manager/Supervisor. Candidates must be comfortable working directly with students, staff, faculty, and visitors in a professional manner; engage in conversation; assist with finding items in the store. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once; work successfully while under pressure. Able to work various shifts; Monday-Friday, an occasional Saturday; times ranging from 7:15am to 7pm.
CANDIDATES MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR TRAINING.
Some prior retail experience preferred, but not required.
Barista experience preferred, but not required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the public.
High School Graduate, or equivalent.
Customer service, cash handling, and use of point-of-sale register experience preferred. Municipality of Anchorage Food Handler's card
Physical Requirements (with or without a reasonable accommodation):
Ability to stand for at least a 4-hour shift
Ability to lift up to 50-pounds.
Hourly Pay: $10.56
