Position Summary:

Join the Geophysical Institute in achieving our mission to understand geophysical processes and solve applied geophysical problems. Scientists at the Geophysical Institute study geophysical processes in action from the center of the Earth to the surface of the sun and beyond. The institute turns data and observations into information useful for state and national needs. We are currently accepting applications for temporary employees.

Duties:

100These duties will vary based on position: Assist with the upkeep and generation of confidential files, technical/educational materials, publications, display materials, presentation materials and other related items. May be responsible for the timely production and publication articles and stories. Solid understanding of databases methodology to design and use new databases. Conduct onsite and offsite tours. Assist with the development and engineering of software. Assist in desktop and network troubleshooting, support. Provide computer consulting for University faculty, staff and students. Perform maintenance on microcomputers and accessories. Assist with development, production and maintenance of web pages and sites. Create graphics for the web. Carry out work in the field and the laboratory. Laboratory work may include duties such as sample preparation, washing glassware. Perform data entry into spreadsheets databases. Look for anomalies and errors in data. Use the UA Banner system to enter accurately and research information and data. Perform maintenance and repair of vehicles, scientific equipment, motors, pumps, building and/or maintaining fencing, storage sheds, cages, and varied construction duties. Collect and maintain research data, data entry, travel to research sites, expediter duties, operating research equipment, moving supplies and equipment. Assist in creating and maintaining complex system software, at the direction of the system administrators. This software might be layered software packages, system utilities, or other system applications. Write and design technical documentation.Essential

Job Overview:

At the Geophysical Institute, the breadth of our research is reflected by our disciplinary-based, functional groupings of faculty and research staff. These research divisions reflect the range and diversity of the GI's active scientific research projects, which reach from the center of the earth to the center of the sun and beyond. In addition, the GI supplies researchers all over the world with data and support for essential Earth science research through our many facilities. A large part of the success of the GI is attributable to the expert services of our support staff. These groups include design services, operations, business, human resources, proposal office and public information. As a temporary employee, you would contribute to the research and support of researchers through a variety of positions.

Required Skills and Experience:

The level of experience is varied and is based on the position. Education, training, licensing and/or certification is dependent upon the position. All positions require at least a High School diploma or equivalent. Additionally, the candidate must possess the appropriate training and/or education required for the position.

Salary Information:

Salary varies based on position and is commensurate with experience.
