10 Provide technology training for faculty and staff on existing software, hardware and peripheral devices. Provide technical consultation on software and hardware use and selection including reviews and recommendations regarding new or emerging technology. 10 Remain current in software and hardware systems applicable to IAC. Work closely with the UAF Office of Information Technology (OIT) to assure the methods used to provide services and expertise are appropriate, current and meet university standards. Attend meetings with OIT. Essential
10 Travel to IAC rural centers to review onsite technology, including computer labs, to assure that technology remains functional including installing or upgrading systems and installing equipment. Essential
20 Keep a log that details tech support requests and problem resolution. Track hardware and software purchases and retain records. Compile data for program activities each semester. Attend regular Title III meetings and provide data and reports to grant program manager. Attend meetings and provide reports and data at the request of position Supervisor. Essential
20 Provide technology support for IAC faculty and staff members. Install and configure personal computer and laptop operating systems, peripheral devices, application and other software or hardware needed to provide administrative, academic and students support functions. This includes troubleshooting existing equipment and systems. Essential
30 Provide technology support for Interior Alaska Campus (IAC) students. Focus will be on increasing student ability to use technology to successfully engage in distance and on-site delivery of educational instruction. This includes providing student support in order to assure that students are able to access and use software, hardware and university systems such as UA Online and university email accounts. It includes providing pre-emptive individual support to assure that students are able to access and use technology needed for class participation at the beginning of class. The primary purpose of the Interior Alaska Campus (IAC) IT Student Support Specialist is to increase the ability of students to effectively use the technology required for class participation and online university processes. This position also provides support for faculty and staff. The position is located at IAC's administrative center in Fairbanks, but also requires occasional travel to the campus centers in Fort Yukon and Tok. This is a half-time position with a combination of day and evening hours scheduled to meet student and class needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
This position will be required to have the skills and knowledge to be able to work effectively with diverse populations, students with a low level of technical competency, and students using a wide variety of systems and software and with limited connection.
Minimum of 2 years experience in a Technology support field
Typical Education or Training:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 2 years
experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
