Position Summary:

The UAA College of Arts and Sciences, Social Sciences Division is accepting applications for adjunct instructors in the following departments: Anthropology, Geography and Environmental Studies, Journalism, Political Science, Sociology and Women's Studies. The Social Sciences Division offers a broad-based selection of courses and programs for students who wish to pursue a career in the above fields or who need to increase their knowledge in these areas.

Duties:

Adjunct positions are on a semester appointment basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of an appointment nor does having worked one semester guarantee an offer of employment in the following semester. This is an adjunct labor pool and applicants are hired based on departmental need.  Salary is based on the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. Applicants will be evaluated on the suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students in a manner consistent with the specific course content guides in the following departments:

Anthropology
Geography and Environmental Studies
Journalism
Political Science
Sociology
Women's Studies

Required Experience:

Applicants must have expertise and experience relevant to teaching the specific course content.

Experience teaching college-level courses in Anthropology, Geography, Environmental Studies, Journalism, Political Science, Sociology, Women's Studies or closely related field is preferred.

Typical Education or Training:

The successful candidate will have at least a Masters degree in Anthropology, Geography, Environmental Studies, Journalism, Political Science, Sociology, Women's Studies or closely related field. Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.

A PhD in Anthropology, Geography, Environmental Studies, Journalism, Political Science, Sociology, Women's Studies or closely related field is preferred.
