Position Summary:

The UAA Center for Human Development is seeking a full-time Complex Behavior Specialist ABA/ Mental Health Provider 2 to work across multiple settings and client populations as a Consultant for the Effective Behavior Interventions Clinic. This position requires the ability to teach and guide others through the process of a functional behavioral assessments and the design and implementation of an individualized behavior intervention plans as well as facilitate and lead multidisciplinary teams. A successful candidate will be able to build excellent realistic individualized plans using the principle of applied behavioral science and has the ability to work in diverse environments in both rural and urban Alaska. This position requires an ability to facilitate, motivate and respectfully lead complex multi-disciplinary teams while building individual team member’s capacity to use applied behavioral interventions to address challenging behaviors.

Duties:

10Participate as a member of the CHD EBI program team in the planning and coordination of service expansion and program development. Assist the EBI team in the development of policy and procedures in conjunction with program expansion.Essential
10Provide on-going technical assistance and draft timely transition plans for changes in these services, and/or service completion plans associated with planned closure of cases.Essential
15Lead and coordinate the provision of consultative services to teams and families to assist in issues of coordination and fidelity of implementation for clients referred to the CHD EBI Clinic.Essential
20Facilitate the implementation of these recommended data-based services through agency staff and families for these same individuals.Essential
20Provide training to agency staff and families of those intervention strategies directly or indirectly associated with the implementation of these behavior support services. Provide ongoing community trainings in basics of behavior as assigned.Essential
25Write positive behavioral support plans, functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans and program planning services for children, youth and adults who experience mental illness, autism/developmental disabilities and other conditions served by the CHD EBI Clinic.Essential

The Effective Behavior Interventions Clinic is a growing clinic seeking a personable and energetic person, ready for the challenges and rewards of working with diverse teams of direct caregivers,  family members, and community providers supporting individuals with challenging behaviors. This unique consultative role allows for the connection across different providers. 

What is behavioral consultation?

Effective Behavioral Interventions is a service offered by the University of Alaska Anchorage's Center for Human Development that provides consultation, training and technical assistance to an agency currently serving an individual (6 years or older) with complex behaviors that present as high risk of danger to the individual and/or others without additional intervention. The intervention required is beyond the scope of normal services for this population.

In addition to complex behavior, an individual may also experience one or more of the following:

  • Serious Mental Illness
  • Intellectual/Developmental Disability
  • Alzheimer’s Disease and related Dementia
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Chronic Alcoholism with Cognitive Impairment

About Us

The Center for Human Development (CHD) is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities in Education, Research, and Service (UCEDDs) authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000. There are 67 UCEDDs, at least one in every state and territory, which form an Association of UCEDD's (AUCD.org).  Since CHD is the only UCEDD in Alaska, we serve the entire state.

The UAA Center for Human Development has 4 major functions:

These activities are designed to increase the independence, productivity, and community integration and inclusion for individuals with disabilities.  CHD’s projects and activities are not limited to developmental disabilities; they focus on a wide range of disabilities, ages, and issues.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of positive behavioral interventions and supports, person-center planning, delivery of effective skill instruction, team management and facilitation and other strategies associated with effective service delivery for people with challenging behaviors.

Experience in the regular use of Microsoft Excel and other data bases for the use single subject data collection and presentation preferred. 

Past involvement in behavioral science research also preferred.

Required Experience:
Minimum of 4 years working in the field of disability and/or mental health with experience with at least 3 years working in a professional role serving youth and/or adults with:

  • Serious Mental Illness
  • Intellectual/Developmental Disability
  • Alzheimer’s Disease and related Dementia
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Chronic Alcoholism with Cognitive Impairment

Ability to demonstrate proficiencies in functional behavioral assessments, data collection, building and implementing behavior intervention plans in a variety of community settings.

Education/Training:
Master’s degree in behavior analysis, social work, psychology or education from an accredited postsecondary institution and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience; OR Ph.D. in relevant field from an accredited institution with clinical internship.

Four years of relevant work experience is preferred.

Appropriate state licensure is required in specialty area (i.e. BCBA, LCSW, Ph.d).

Salary: Will be based upon level of education, training and experience. Minimum $ 27.94
