The front circulation desk at the Egan Library is responsible for the maintenance of the collection of library materials for student and public access, checking materials into and out of the library, and providing a welcoming first point of contact for general patron questions. Circulation student assistants perform a variety of tasks such as direct customer service, shelving, mail, collection projects, assistance for events, and support duties for library staff. Student assistants will be scheduled to work part-time or full-time (up to 80 hours per pay period) in the summer, and the option of working part-time (up to 40 hours per pay period) during the academic year. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and filled as positions become available.
100% Perform a variety of tasks necessary for maintaining the collection and provide support services to Circulation staff and to other library departments. Duties generally are routine in nature and decision-making is limited (e.g., may make routine decisions about assigned work in absence of immediate supervision.). Essential
Must be able to physically reach overhead and crouch/squat down; push and pull loaded book card; lift 50 lbs. with or without accommodations; and/or walk for extended periods of time.
Attention to details and ability to follow instructions.
Strong organization and prioritization skills.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and due diligence.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Previous customer service skills is preferred, but not required.
Ability to interface with computer comfortably and learn new software programs.
Student Employment Requirements
Must be a UAS student enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours. Summer employees must be enrolled in at least 6 credits for the upcoming Fall semester, and are not required to take summer courses for student employment.
Must have a 2.0 GPA, unless a first time freshman.
