The Department of Sociology at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is pleased to offer a Multicultural Postdoctoral Fellowship beginning in August 2019. This appointment may be renewed for up to an additional two years.
100 The Multicultural Postdoctoral Fellow will teach one class per semester and will engage in research and service activities while being mentored by members of the department and having access to UAA’s Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence. Essential
These fellowships were recommended in UAA’s 2017 Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan and their purpose is two-fold: increase the diversity of the faculty at UAA and advance issues of diversity in teaching and scholarship within its academic programs.
UAA is located in Anchorage, a city of 300,000 known for its cultural diversity, natural beauty and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. The Department of Sociology at UAA offers BA, BS and minor degrees in Sociology. Our program has a reputation for mentoring undergraduate research.
Knowledge/Skills/Ab ilities/ Required Experience:
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States at the time of application.
Successful candidates will be prepared to teach introductory sociology courses and have teaching competence in at least one of these areas: Gender, Race and Ethnicity, Sexuality, Stratification, Medical Sociology. Research interests should address issues of diversity and/or inequality. Scholars who study disparities in education or health or whose research is focused on the Arctic are especially encouraged to apply.
Typical Education or Training:
Ph.D. in Sociology is required. ABDs in Sociology will be considered however employment is contingent upon conferral of Ph.D. prior to appointment start date in August 2019.
Successful applicants must provide Official Transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment. Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred either by institutions of higher education which are accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education as determined by UAA based on a review by a foreign educational credential evaluation service and recognized by UAA.
