Disability Services provides classroom accommodations to students with disabilities. These accommodations range from providing qualified students with ASL interpreting services to reading tests aloud. Student assistants are an integral part of the Disability Services (DS) team. Student Assistants gain invaluable experience through their work with students with disabilities. Working with such a diverse group of the student body teaches student assistants how to look at a situation from a new perspective.
100 Works under general direction. Exercises independent judgment and decision-making in developing new procedures or techniques. May involve supervision of other student employees. Examples of typical work include: performing complex computer programming, network operations or troubleshooting; advance technical computer maintenance; research, writing or assisting in writing technical reports; assisting in complex technical aspects of complex projects. May be responsible for a facility, building, activity, or program. May coordinate the use of equipment, building space, or programs. Essential
Tasks required of Student Assistants in the Disability Services Department include scanning textbooks, converting textbooks into audio books, proctoring exams, note taking, teaching students how to use assistive technologies, and basic office tasks as needed.
The applicant must have good interpersonal skills.
The applicant must demonstrate familiarity with laptop and desktop computers.
The applicant must be able to work independently and reliably meet time commitments.
The applicant must be able to read aloud clearly.
The applicant must be able to take legible notes.
Former employment in an office setting preferred.
Typical Education or Training:
High school GED or diploma.

Applicant must be enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.

This is a Student Assistant B; minimum starting pay $9.50.
The successful applicant is required to complete a background check. Any offer of employment is contingent on the background check.
