ICHS is digitally archiving an ethnography conducted in Russia and Alaska between 1992 and 1996 called the Social Transitions in the North. The original researchers passed away in a boating accident during data collection in Russia. ICHS became the repository for the study documents in 2001, however, over the past 20 years the documents have become frail and require digitization.
We are looking for a dedicated undergraduate student with an interest in gaining experience in data maintenance, archiving, and an opportunity to work with an old research project that could be used for a graduate dissertation or thesis. The current position is for data entry and project administration tasks that will require a significant attention to detail and an ability to work independently. The individual selected for this position will be required to complete UAA’s CITI Human’s Subject Training within their first week of hire as required by UAA’s Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Upload documents to computer saving metadata, making documents readable, and saving as PDF/A. Following established protocol.
Organize digital files and enter file location in a database.
Upload digital project materials to appropriate format.
Other duties as assigned.
Extensive knowledge of office equipment, including but not limited to copiers, Adobe Acrobat Pro, floppy discs, VHS.
Basic knowledge of digital metadata.
Disciplined attention to detail, organization, and follow-through required.
Ability to work with discretion, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound independent judgment is required.
Currently enrolled in a University of Alaska undergraduate program in a Social/Behavioral or Health Sciences program including but not limited to Nursing, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Anthropology, etc.
