Position Summary:

This position is for a temporary, part-time Photo Lab Technician position within the Art Department located within the UAA Fine Arts building. This position is primarily responsible for providing assistance to the faculty who teach photography courses within the department. Position is directly responsible for monitoring and maintaining the photography lab space, equipment and supplies. Position also works one-on-one with students enrolled in courses and assists them with their needs. This position will report directly to the head of the Photography area. This is a non-benefited position which will work part-time up to 20 hours per week. The person selected for this position must have the ability to be flexible as the work schedule will be based on the needs of the department and the courses being offered in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Duties:

100Assist the head of photography area in monitoring and maintaining the photography lab. Prepare photography lab chemicals as directed by supervisor. Maintain photography lab supply levels and take inventory on a regular basis. Notify supervisor when supplies are low for purchasing purposes. Work with students enrolled in photography courses by assisting student needs to include assigning lockers, monitoring equipment and supply usage, and maintain the studio usage schedules.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Interpersonal communication, time management skills, prioritization and attention to detail will be essential.

Working knowledge of photographic processes and demonstrated ability to maintain and manage the day-to-day operations of a photography lab.

Knowledge of safety standards involving photography equipment and chemicals.

Typical Education/Training Needed:

One year of work/student experience in a photography lab.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience: 

Previous experience with OSHA regulations. Ability to attend trainings as needed to stay updated on knowledge, skills and/or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
