Position Summary:

This position will strategically assess, develop, coordinate, and monitor targeted communications and public relations programs for the achievement of UAA's missions and goals. Supervise and manage a dynamic team of marketing and communications professionals and develop effective and positive relations with internal and external audiences by working with all UAA campuses to create public understanding of the importance of UA's mission, goals, and accomplishments.

Duties:

10Develop strategies for use in crisis communication and issues management. Provide PR counsel to Chancellor''s senior staff, strategize on crisis and issues.Essential
10Supervise production of high quality, impactful, relevant, collateral materials; preparation of data tables and/or graphics for written and oral reports'' manage creative service contractors to ensure they meet standards, etc.Essential
10Supervise the editing, writing, and marketing of news features for local, state, national and international audiences. Serve on the Alumni Spirit Magazine editorial board. Work closely with the Chancellor and staff to develop and execute impactful communications from the Chancellor, including op-eds, speeches/presentations, letters to the campus community and more as appropriate.Essential
20Develop effective and positive relations with internal and external audiences by working with all UAA campuses to create public understanding of the importance of UA''s mission, goals, and accomplishments.Essential
30Direct, plan, manage and supervise marketing and communications functions within UAA''s Advancement Office, including development and implementation of UAA''s marketing and communications strategies, and setting priorities, work direction, hiring, performance evaluations, staff development, and overseeing budget expenditures.Essential
5Develop and monitor Marketing and Communications budget.Essential
5Direct research efforts for gathering and processing data about constituents and the marketplace.Essential
5Work with Vice Chancellor and leadership of university to develop strategic marketing and communications plan(s) to position UAA as a university of first choice. Strengthen UAA''s brand position; work closely with Student Affairs to ensure alignment of new student recruitment marketing and communications.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strategic planning, implementation and consistent follow through
Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including meeting facilitation
Crisis/issues/policy management and analysis
Staff management including recruitment, supervision, training, motivation and development.
Contract and professional services management.
Demonstrated effectiveness in marketing and communications/public relations/media relations with diverse audiences.
Highest professional/ethical standards/values.
Be able to think and plan strategically.
Accurately analyze complex/delicate situations and act responsibly/constructively in crisis situations and respond effectively in writing and verbally to sensitive and/or complex issues.

Required Experience:

Minimum of ten years experience in management, marketing and communications.

Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible positions which demonstrate the ability to manage a diverse group of creative people effectively (including recruitment, development, motivation, team facilitation, discipline, termination).

Typical Education or Training:

Bachelor's degree required in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or relevant discipline (or) an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Masters degree preferred.
