Position Summary:

The Student Activities Graphics Assistant designs promotional materials, including posters, web materials, and ads for print. Join an exciting team that provides over a hundred events and art exhibits each year. Gain valuable career skills and have fun while doing it!

Duties:

COLLABORATION: Graphic Assistants work with event planners and gallery attendants, and other clients within the office, to conceptualize and actualize designs to promote events. Graphic Assistants will communicate with clients in-person and through e-mail.Essential
CONCEPT DESIGN: Graphic Assistants will conceive of designs that relate to the theme and tone of events, and work with partners to bring that design to productionEssential
DESIGN: Graphic Assistants utilize Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create posters, LCD screen designs, postcards, T-shirts, brochures, handbills, social media advertising, stickers, and logos.Essential
EVENT ASSISTANCE: Graphic Assistants may be asked to assist with events, including photography and videography for institutional memory.Essential
PRODUCTION: Graphic Assistants are responsible for printing media ranging from posters, pamphlets, and large format materials, utilizing multiple printers in the office (including a CANON, and EPSON for large formats). Graphic Assistants are also responsible for collating, cutting, and folding.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

This position requires good knowledge of layout and design. Basic knowledge of Mac and Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is required. This applicant must be reliable, punctual, have a strong work ethic, work well under pressure, and have strong communication skills.

Required Experience:

Basic knowledge of Mac and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is required.

Typical Education or Training:

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must have the following characteristics:

a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and be enrolled in for six or more credit hours in the next semester
c. Have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
d.Student enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer
e.An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility

Job Summary:

Student Activities mission is to provide art, entertainment, and a sense of community to the UAA campus and Anchorage while being mindful of the diversity and interests of UAA students. The Student Activities team provides over a hundred events and art exhibits each year. Help a great team promote these events, gain valuable career skills, and have fun while doing it! 

Hourly Rate: $10.50
