Position Summary:

The College Preparatory & Developmental Studies (CPDS) Department, within the Community and Technical College at the University of Alaska Anchorage invite applications for a full-time, bipartite, tenure-track faculty position to teach college-level and developmental composition and/or Basic Writing/Developmental English courses. This position requires a flexible schedule of day and evening classes. The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and CPDS are committed to faculty diversity as a way to strengthen preparation of students for life in an increasingly diverse society. CPDS responds to the lifelong learning needs of the community by developing and providing academic English and Writing instruction for on-traditional, at-risk, and preparatory English students. The department assists students in successfully pursuing their life-long academic and community goals.

Duties:

Teach college-level and developmental composition, and/or Developmental English (basic reading and writing) courses to adults in a community college setting. Work in a diverse cooperative and collaborative educational setting inclusive of the developmental education philosophy and mission.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Teaching skills and ability to work in a diverse cooperative and collaborative educational setting. 
Knowledge and commitment to teaching, and to the developmental education philosophy and mission. 
Demonstrated ability to each college-level composition, and/or Developmental English (basing reading and writing) to adults. 
Knowledge of and commitment to student-centered teaching, high impact practices, and alternative delivery methods.
Knowledge of writing centers and other student learning supports.

Required Experience:

Successful experience teaching college-level and developmental English composition in multiple modalities.
Successful experience teaching first-year and underrepresented student populations.
Full-time teaching experience in a community college or university setting.
Experience working with English language learners.
Teaching experience in a community college or university setting.

Typical Education or Training:

Terminal degree (PhD preferred) in English or related discipline to teach composition.
