The circulation desk at the Egan Library is responsible for the maintenance of the collection for public access, circulating materials into and out of the library, and providing a first point of contact for general patron questions. Circulation student assistants perform a variety of tasks necessary for maintaining the collection and provide support services to Circulation staff and to other library departments. Student assistants will be scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week during semesters, with the option of working up to 40 hours per week during the summer and winter breaks. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and filled as positions become available.
Must be able to physically reach overhead and crouch/squat down; push and pull loaded book card; lift 50 lbs. with or without accommodations; and/or walk for extended periods of time.
Attention to details and ability to follow instructions.
Strong organization and prioritization skills.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and due diligence.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Previous customer service skills is preferred, but not required.
Ability to interface with computer comfortably and learn new software programs.
Student Employment Requirements
Must be a UAS student enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours throughout employment duration.
Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA throughout employment duration.
This is a Student Assistant B position, $9.50/hourly, with exceptional placement dependent on previous experience. This is a great opportunity to receive on the job training while going to school. We schedule your desk shifts around your course load.
NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.
