Position Summary:

Alaska SBDC is hiring for the Juneau Center Director. This position will manage the Juneau Center, provide business services to clients in the region and will report directly to the Alaska SBDC Executive Director.  The best candidate will have experience running a small business, working with entrepreneurs, solid understanding of business finance and the ability to interface with businesses, nonprofit organizations, lenders and policymakers.

25Build awareness of SBDC programs and services by engaging key referral sources such as banks, lenders, professional firms and other business resource partners. Supervise Center staff and maintain organizational metrics and strategic goals. Understand, maintain and grow any center specific funding and partnerships that support the Center’s mission. Work with their Regional Director to ensure regional goals and initiatives are met. Attend and be an active contributor in internal staff meetings, conferences and/or trainings. Serve and be an active participant on internal SBDC Committees. Support / assist SBDC regional marketing and outreach programs.Essential
50Provide technical assistance to small business owners in Alaska. Areas of advising include, but are not limited to: business plans, sources of financing, marketing, financial proposals, cash flow management and other aspects of business formation, development and expansion. Provide accurate and timely client session notes in authorized Neoserra database to enable client tracking and reporting. Follow-up with clients receiving the National Impact Study (Chrisman Survey) on an annual basis. Increase the percentage of initial clients that are “in business ” in your client portfolio.Essential


Substantive knowledge of business management principles, practices and techniques; strong financial planning skills; program development and management skills, employee management skills, communication skills, strong organizational abilities; resource development skills; several years of business ownership and/or management. Proficiency and experience in public speaking, developing and delivering classroom instruction, and relationship building with other organizations. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to federal and university agreements. Ability to focus and maintain strict regulations of database session updates/uploads. Ability to capture significant return on investment results and create comprehensive reports for purposes of grant proposal or quarterly reporting requirements. Strong analytical skills to best identify and develop plan for business development with client. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to organize and present facts and opinions.  Occasional travel is required. Attendance of meetings that  fall outside of the 8-5, M-F hours of operation are frequently required. Computer operating skills required. Significant understanding of Word, and Excel required. Cloud technology and Google Drive experience preferred.
Required Experience: 
Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field and five years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of business ownership, training, education and experience. Significant business or administrative experience which demonstrates ability to manage, direct, design, develop, and market a business assistance program as well as develop and leverage outside public and private sector resources and evaluate program impact. 
Knowledge of local economy and proven ability to build productive relationships with community leaders.
Typical Education and Training: 
A minimum of five years business ownership and/or five years as a key manager in a business enterprise is required. Ownership or management experience must include direct responsibility for usual and necessary small business operational functions.
MBA preferred.
