The Toolik Field Station at the Institute of Arctic Biology is seeking A motivated individual to work as Assistant Station Manager.

The Toolik Field Station is a 3-150 person remote scientific research field station located at mile 284.5 Dalton Highway, Alaska. The Assistant Station Manager will act as the Toolik Field Station (TFS) camp manager during times when the TFS Facility Supervisor (Camp Manager) is not on-site, assist the Camp Manager as directed while both individuals are on-site at TFS, and assist the Camp Manager with a variety of staff and TFS related tasks.

20 Assist the Facility Supervisor (Camp Manager) with scheduling station staff, coordinating staff and user transportation, monitoring and editing user reservations and communicating with users verbally and electronically regarding support details. Essential
25 Assist the Facility Supervisor (Camp Manager) as directed while both individuals are on-site at Toolik Field Station. This could include any of the tasks in the section above, as well as daily operational tasks of freight handling, fueling, facility upkeep, warehousing, equipment operation, snow removal, grounds maintenance, science support, remote field work, janitorial, logistics, and other camp tasks performed by the staff this position leads. The position is required to regularly drive the remote Dalton Highway on unimproved surfaces, in adverse weather conditions, and amongst industrial traffic. Essential
35 Act as Toolik Field Station (TFS) camp manager during times when the TFS Facility Supervisor (Camp Manager) is not on-site, which includes:
- Enforcement of TFS camp rules and policies pertaining to all users of TFS, including staff and all other camp residents. Enforcement of major code of conduct violations will be done in conjunction with the Facility Supervisor or a member of the TFS Management Team.
- Manage the daily operation of TFS including planning housing assignments and keeping posted housing sheets up to date, maintaining attendance records, using and managing a complex electronic hotel reservation system, completing daily logs, giving orientations/briefings to new arrivals, coordinating support requests between staff and users, communicating with TFS Fairbanks staff as needed.
- Lead TFS operations staff including Field Operation Assistants (FOAs), Winter Operations Assistants (WOAs), and Safety Coordinators. This includes project identification, daily tasking, and monitoring of work. This position will have the primary responsibility of ensuring TFS is clean, well-kept, and materially organized. The Toolik Field Station is a 3-150 person remote scientific research field station located at mile 284.5 Dalton Highway, Alaska. The Assistant Station Manager will act as the Toolik Field Station (TFS) camp manager during times when the TFS Facility Supervisor (Camp Manager) is not on-site, assist the Camp Manager as directed while both individuals are on-site at TFS, and assist the Camp Manager with a variety of staff and TFS related tasks. The station is very busy. This position requires working under pressure, working independently, working with a wide variety of faculty, staff and students, working in adverse weather conditions, and performing tasks accurately.
