The University of Alaska Southeast, School of Career Education is seeking a Mine Training Coordinator. 25% Collaborates with Career Education Administrative Management staff to manage confidential databases (both hardcopy and electronic) regarding Career Education students and courses. Conducts data collection & tabulation, source research, interviews and surveying, as assigned. Uses UA Banner and other MIS relational database systems, and from this generates reports.
Collaborates with Career Education Outreach Coordinator to develop and maintain contact with incoming Career Education students. Devise an efficient and effective method for communicating with students at critical academic milestones (major declaration, portfolio, pre-major status, non-enrollment) or change of status.
Collaborates with adminstrative staff to plan, organize and direct variety of programs promoting student success, cultural diversity, transition and retention. May assist in design, development, evaluation and grant writing for student programs. Essential
25% Publications, Web-Based Communication & Graphic Design: Employee assists Department in designing, producing, and distributing hard copy program communications for the UAS Center of Mine Training programs. Creating drafts of brochures, newsletters, flyers, event schedules, marketing materials and/or news releases for dissemination to internal/external audiences, as assigned.
Assists Website Manager to update School of Career Education website, when needed. Use up-to-date software to maintain program websites. Essential
50% Coordinate Mine Training - Acts as primary coordinator for mine training program in the School of Career Education. Liaison with UA MAPTS personnel to schedule training and instructors for regularly scheduled monthly training. Coordinate with industry partners to schedule employees and contractors for trainings. Organize, schedule, and host training for industry partners as requested. This includes attending meetings related to mine training programs and partnership with state government, industry, and other MAUs. Essential
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Three years’ experience in either coordinating programs, career advising, or workforce development;
Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of recruiting and outreach management is preferred.
Ability to manage time and scheduling with minimal or no supervision.
Knowledge and experience in building and maintaining relationships, for example, within the School of Career Education, other UA entities, and industry representatives.
Proficient in Microsoft Office [Word, Excel, Access, etc.].
Knowledge of social media platforms; Facebook/instagram and other University-specific software applications (Enrollment RX and Degree Works) is desirable.
Knowledge of mining is preferred but not required.
The incumbent will be eligible to work up to 80 hours in a pay period, but is required to have a 120 day break in service after 18 months. This is a full-time, 6 month, temporary staff assignment.
