The Psychology Department is recruiting qualified applicants for its pool of adjunct instructors. Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired.
The UAA College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychology is recruiting qualified applicants for its pool of adjunct instructors. Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis (including summer sessions), according to the needs of that semester's schedule. Those who are approved will be granted an 11-month trial period that begins on the date that adjunct instructor first teaches a particular course - a date that might be several months after he/she was approved. After the 11-month trial, adjunct instructors must then apply for 'standing approval' for a particular course. Standing approval is based on a departmental review of the instructor's syllabi, assignments, and course evaluations, and will be granted for three years. Adjuncts who do not teach continuously during that period of standing approval will need to reapply as per University regulations. Therefore, adjuncts approved for an 11-month trial period are encouraged to discuss their syllabi and assignments during the trial period with tenure-track faculty who have taught that particular course at UAA in the past.
Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates for 11-month trial approval or standing approval will be evaluated on suitability of their graduate-level academic coursework and preparation, past teaching experiences, expertise and experience relevant to the effective teaching of their specific field, and potential for providing high-quality instruction to undergraduate and/or graduate students in assigned Psychology courses at UAA.
The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more courses in a manner consistent with the course content guide. Course descriptions can be found online in the UAA Catalog at http://catalog.uaa.alaska.edu. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught and be available for contact with students.

Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for this position as a condition of employment.
