Position Summary:

The incumbent will work under the supervision of the director of the University of Alaska School of Social Work to develop, maintain, and update messages, content, and images for the school’s various social media communication tools including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Assist in ensuring the timeliness and relevance of the school’s messages, the student worker will help the director frame messages, post messages and related written and video content to the various social media sites. In addition, the student worker will assist the director in preparing content about the school, students, staff members, and faculty for dissemination through social media. The student worker will assist the director and other members of the school’s faculty and staff in producing relevant content for building the school’s positive image within the various communities it serves.

Duties:

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Sustaining social media presence of the UAA School of Social Work (25%)
  2. Assisting director in shaping highly engaging messages about the work and activities of the UAA School of Social Work (25%)
  3. Assisting director in using social media content to communicate with the school’s principal constituencies (25%)
  4. Producing videographic content relevant to the school and to social work as a professional.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

1. Skills in the use of social media, especially Facebook and Twitter.
2. Some skills in sustaining a You Tube channel
3. Sound writing and grammatical skills
4. Basic skills in videography and photography
5. Basic skills in writing engaging message content for public and professional consumption
6. Skills in basic editing of content
7. Forming and sustaining good working relationships
8. Basic interviewing skills
9. Organizing data in written form

Required Experience:

Experience in working with various social media tools, and in maintaining the continuity of messaging.  Experience in producing relevant content for posting to social media, and some experience in helping conduct information campaigns for the purposes of marketing.  Experience in producing simple videographic portrayals of an organization.

Typical Education or Training:

Some knowledge of social work and related human services is beneficial.  Some experience in serving in human service organizations, and some familiarity with the helping professions.  Internships, volunteer experience, and/or paid experience in such organizations are suitable.

Salary:  $10.50/hour (non-exempt)
