Position Summary:

The incumbent will work under the supervision of the director of the University of Alaska School of Social Work to develop, maintain, and update content for the school’s website. Assist in ensuring the timeliness of the school’s website. The student worker will collect content, reach out to faculty and students to obtain content, edit the content and ensure its quality and post content to relevant areas of the website. The student worker will assist the school’s director in maintaining the currency of secondary pages including pages the school devotes to research projects, civic engagement projects, and curriculum programs. In addition, the student worker will assist the director in preparing content about the school, students, staff members, and faculty for dissemination to other content providers for the purposes of advancing awareness of the UAA School of Social Work. The student will be involved in helping the director prepare content for university publications and newsletters.

Duties:

In addition, the student worker will assist the director in preparing content about the school, students, staff members, and faculty for dissemination to other content providers for the purposes of advancing awareness of the UAA School of Social Work. The student will be involved in helping the director prepare content for university publications and newsletters.

Principal Responsibilities

 1. Interviewing members of the school’s faculty, staff, community partners and students for dissemination by the school of social work. (25%)

2. Preparation in draft form of content assigned by supervisor (25%)

3. Editing content prepared by the supervisor (25%)

4. Posting of content to school’s website (25%)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

1. Sound writing and grammatical skills
2. Basic skills in preparing content for public consumption
3. Skills in basic editing of content
4. Forming and sustaining good working relationships
5. Basic interviewing skills
6. Organizing data in written form
7. Basic skills in photography
8. Skills in using web based templates for posting content to websites.

Required Experience:

Experience in working to maintain organizational websites, and in preparing content for posting to sites.  Experience in working with faculty or other professionals to obtain content, review content with faculty members, and revise content accordingly.  Experience in working with photographs and other images for posting to websites and in writing engaging headers and headlines for website content.

Typical Education or Training:

Some knowledge of social work and related human services is beneficial.  Some experience in serving in human service organizations, and some familiarity with the helping professions.  Internships, volunteer experience, and/or paid experience in such organizations are desirable.

Salary:  $10.50/hour (non-exempt, part-time)
