Position Summary:

Temporary Research Professionals assist ISER researchers with a wide range of project tasks from data collection to analysis to reporting.

Duties:

Position:  Temporary Pool Research Professional for ISER

The Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) studies social and economic conditions in Alaska and provides unbiased information and research to inform public and private decisions.

Temporary Research Professionals will work under the general guidance of faculty and senior research staff to assist with projects.  Tasks may include: data collection (both qualitative and quantitative) , data cleaning and entry, construction and manipulation of datasets, data analysis, creation of charts and tables displaying results, and contributing to reports.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Depending on project needs, required skills may include:
Ability to construct and manage large databases.  Understanding of SPSS, Excel or other software to manage large databases. Skills to accurately collect and organize socio-economic, program, and economic data; to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze data; and to draft tables, charts, and reports describing these analyses. Ability to conduct surveys and focus groups.  Knowledge of human subjects protection. Ability to clearly communicate technical material to a general audience through written material, charts, graphs, and presentations. Travel may be required. 

Prefer applicant to be familiar with Alaska policy issues, regional economies, and data sources.

Required Experience:

 At least six months of applied research experience with quantitative and / or qualitative research in the social sciences.

Typical Education or Training:

Baccalaureate or equivalent in education and experience in economics, environmental studies, public policy or a related field of social science.

Salary: Temporary Staff Grade 78; $21.07/hour minimum
