Matanuska-Susitna College (MSC) is seeking a Term Assistant Professor of Biology. This is a bipartite (no research requirement) position. Candidates will need to be capable of teaching Introduction to Biology (BIOL A102 and BIOL A108), and Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II lectures and laboratories (BIOL A111 and BIOL A112). The successful candidate must be available to start August 2018 and able to teach the courses face-to-face on the Mat-Su College campus.
Mat-Su College is a community campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The campus is located on 951 acres in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the fastest growing region of Alaska. We serve as a major higher education hub for the communities of Wasilla and Palmer. Our student-friendly campus offers small class sizes and state-of-the-art facilities, including paramedic classrooms with a fully equipped ambulance bay, updated science labs, and a new 520-seat performing arts theater, the first in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. The campus has an annual operating budget of nearly $11,000,000 and employs nearly one hundred full-time faculty and staff and more than one hundred adjunct instructors to serve approximately 2,000 students each semester.

Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their graduate-level academic coursework and preparation, past teaching experiences, expertise and experience relevant to the effective teaching of their specific field, and potential for providing high-quality instruction to undergraduate students in assigned courses at Mat-Su College.
Evidence of successful teaching experience in Biology or closely related field. College-level teaching experience required.
Typical Education and Training
Ph.D. in biology or closely related field required. ABD’s (All But Defense) candidates will be considered but must have successfully completed their PhD by March 2018.
Teach 100- and 200-level biology courses and labs to undergraduate college students following the approved UAA course content guide;
Prepare syllabus consistent with approved UAA course content guide;
Prepare instruction appropriate to student learning outcomes and class delivery mode, e.g. face-to-face, blended, on-line;
Evaluate student learning;
Provide timely feedback to students on their learning;
Respond to student questions about the class in a timely manner;
Submit final grades on-time;
Hold regular office hours appropriate for the courses being taught; and,
Engage in University, professional and/or community service.
Workload will normally consist of: 80% teaching (12 credits per semester) and 20% service to the university, community, and discipline
