Kenai Peninsula College is seeking an exceptional individual interested in teaching as a Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Process Instrumentation/Process Technology. This faculty position will instruct freshmen and sophomore level instrumentation courses and, as needed, process technology courses in support of programs at KPC. We anticipate reviewing application packets starting late November 2017. The position begins August 2018, but this is negotiable. Applications accepted until the position is closed. The instructor will teach a 5-part workload with three parts teaching, one part consisting of responsibility for keeping the "full instrumentation" portion of the PRT/Industrial Instrumentation Simulator in excellent working order and technically current at all times, and one part university/community service.
This position may require travel and instruction of night classes.
SUMMARY: Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) is a campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The college has three locations and is comprised of:
-Kenai River Campus, Soldotna
-Kachemak Bay Campus, Homer
-Resurrection Bay Extension Site, Seward
This position will be located at the Kenai River Campus situated on 309 acres along the banks of the beautiful Kenai River. Typical Education or Training:
Required: A.A.S. degree in Industrial instrumentation or a B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Electric, Industrial or related), or significant recent work experience beyond the apprentice level, in an area directly related to instrumentation and/or process technology.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science or a degree in a field related to industrial instrumentation or process technology; industry or professional certifications in related fields.
*Recent experience effectively communicating instrumentation and process technology content and training to non-engineering students;
* Recent experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial instrumentation process systems. The candidate should provide specific examples of process problems that he/she has been involved in correcting;
* Recent experience operating and maintaining industrial processes using standard control systems, to include experience with simple field-mounted and board-mounted controllers, DCS equipment, and PLC (or SCADA) and associated electronic automation equipment;
*Recent experience interpreting and preparing industrial piping, instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and related project documentation.
*Significant recent experience working successfully in a field related to Industrial Instrumentation or Process Technology with evidence of progressively responsible professional accomplishments;
*Substantial successful post-secondary teaching and/or related recent work experience beyond the apprentice level in an area directly related to industrial instrumentation and/or process operations;
*Recent experience in the operation of industrial processes using standard control systems;
*Recent experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial instrumentation process systems;
*Recent experience tuning instrument loops including associated math concepts and networking requirements;
*Recent experience installing/maintaining/ programming programmable logic controllers (PLCs) or distributed control systems (DCS's), and associated software packages;
*Recent experience documenting operational, safety, and environmental procedures in an industrial setting;
*Experience advising or mentoring students in a culturally diverse environment;
*Experience with distance delivery methodologies and modalities.
*Strong interpersonal and communication skills in an environment involving a variety of cultures and age levels.
*Ability to effectively teach technical instrumentation and process technology courses at the freshman and sophomore levels. This should specifically include process safety, process operations training, and the basics of process measurements.
*Ability to install, tune, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial instrumentation systems;
*Ability to install, tune, maintain and program programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and/or distributed control systems (DCSs);
*Computer interfacing skills.
