Instructional Design Technician, University of Alaska Southeast, Sitka Campus. This position will incorporate aspects of instructional design with multimedia production and general technology training. Collaboratively design and produce multimedia educational support resources to enhance advising and promote student success. Requires: Two years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience; ability to use multimedia technologies in education environments; demonstrated skills in instructional design and web authoring; familiarity with principles and practices of instructional design; and experience with online content management systems and multimedia facilities and equipment. 12-month, full-time, benefited position funded by a five-year (10/1/2015 - 9/30/2020) federal grant awarded to Alaska Native-Serving Institutions of Higher Education. Recruitment will remain open until filled, however, first consideration will be given to applications received by October 2, 2017.
20 Assist faculty and staff with research and technology assistance to develop relevant infrastructure including equipment and methodology for increasing rural / community participation in distance courses in various formats. Essential
30 Work with faculty and student success team to create research-based multi-media resources for integrating student support modules, community building tools, competency-based assessments, and cultural context into academic program coursework. Essential
50 Work with Title III and Student Success team to develop a Personal Education Planner Tool Kit of relevant, research-based student support and advising resources that promote timely completion for rural, Alaska Native, and high-need students. Using the subject matter expertise of pertinent campus personnel, design appealing and culturally relevant educational/training materials to meet grant objectives in student success in a variety of formats and dissemination methods, such as the web, blog posts, infographics, print media, social media, email, etc. Essential
The UAS Sitka Complete to Compete Grant project is 100% funded by the US Department of Education under the Title III Part A Strengthening Institutions Grant Program and is administered by the University of Alaska Southeast. The primary grant goal is to increase access to higher education and student services for Alaska Native and High Needs students across Alaska. This position will start as soon as it is filled and continue until the end of the grant, currently projected to be
September 30, 2020. This position will report to the UAS Sitka Title III Grant Administrator.
Hourly rate of $23.60 –
Advance Placement is available depending upon experience.
Familiarity with principles and practices of infographics.
Knowledge of digital media production principles, methods, techniques and standards.
Familiarity with industry-standard multimedia authoring tools.
Proficient skills with content management systems.
Ability to utilize professional audiovisual facilities and equipment.
Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to work in a team setting. Ability to learn new software programs with minimal time investment.
Ability to work a semi-flexible schedule to accommodate occasional weekend and evening programming.
Familiarity with rural Alaska, including social, cultural, and educational aspects.
Formal education or professional training in Instructional Design pedagogy.
Experience working in a higher education environment and/or student services.
Demonstrated experience with appropriate tools such as HTML, Adobe CS6, Articulate Storyline, Lectora Inspire, social networking tools, and graphic design principles.
Education or Training Required
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
